I created a Primary Password for the Firefox on my Laptop. I must have written it down incorrectly because Laptop Firefox doesn't recognize the Primary Password when enter it.

Since Laptop Firefox doesn't recognize my Primary Password, I am unable to log into any websites *on my Laptop*. Even if I enter the user name & password manually (vs. trying to use the saved passwords), the Laptop Firefox just asks for the Primary Password.

I am able to access my Firefox account on my Desktop PC and my phone. All three of the devices (laptop, phone, desktop) were being synced, but I turned off the sync when this problem began.

I have read on the Mozilla site that if I have forgotten the Primary Password, then I can "reset" it, however this means I will lose all of my user names and passwords.

I have also read that if I have forgotten my *Account Password*, then I can use my Recovery Key to reset it. >>Can I use my Recovery Key to reset the Laptop Firefox *Primary Password* without loss of data?

I found the place to reset the Laptop Primary Password, but did not click it because I was afraid everything would be deleted when I clicked "Reset".

All of a sudden Firefox has a popup window that asks me for my primary password whenever I try to access one of my bank accounts. I'm just used to signing in with my saved password on each bank's website. Is this something new? Is there some kind of master password that can sign in to all of my accounts? I'm concerned about security issues.

bold textI do not remember ever having a Mozilla master password. Because I do not remember having a master password I do not have a recovery key. How can I find these if they do in fact exist/

After the last system update, I now am being asked to enter my "Primary password", every time I open a new page. When I try entering a password , it is not recognized and I have to click on cancel in order to proceed. I have used what I recall was my password but it is recognized, but I don't get a message telling me it is the wrong password. How can I get back to the previous version that did not ask for my Password. Is that an option?

In version 146.0.1, or perhaps even earlier, I noticed that if you set a Primary Password to log in to the browser, you can reset it and log in simply by clicking the "Cancel" button. This allows you to access all of your user tabs and links. I hadn't noticed this before. It defeats the purpose of setting a Primary Password. I noticed similar issues in the Tor browser, but you can't set a Primary Password there at all, even though the feature is there, and it's built on the Fire Fox engine. Please fix this issue. No buttons should allow you to log in without entering the correct Primary Password.

Hi, I set a primary password so that this is required when I first sign in to Firefox but although the request for the password shows up, I realise I only need to press 'cancel' and firefox is opened.

Firefox is now asking for primary password every time it starts, even before any site that required a sign-in. This just started. How can I stop this annoyance, but still keep the primary password for sign-ins?

What a nuisance. As the subject says - I've never had a Primary Password. All of a sudden you're being a nuisance over it, so I've created one via your "Forgot Password" procedure. As I never EVER want Mozilla to remember passwords for me, and that appears to be one of the reasons you give for having a "Primary Password", I find this change highly objectionable. Just regard this as feedback, because I imagine that now I'll be saddled with my "Primary Password" forever, or until I change to a different browser. John Gipps

Try to setup Thunderbird POP3. Keeps asking for a primary password I never set. I do have a password for Mozilla Firefox, used to log-in and create this question. POP3 Yahoo has been real trouble since the MSFT update as of Novemeber/December 2025.
