Firefox passwords are stored directly within the browser and are tied to your Firefox account, allowing easy autofill and syncing across devices. Third‑party password managers, on the other hand, work independently from the browser and often provide more advanced features like cross-browser support, secure password generation, and monitoring for breaches. While Firefox passwords are convenient for basic use, third-party managers offer extra layers of security and flexibility, especially if you use multiple browsers or devices.

Over time, browsers can slow down due to cached files, cookies, or extensions. To speed up Firefox, start by clearing your cache and cookies via Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data. Next, review your installed extensions and disable any that aren’t necessary through Add-ons > Extensions. Enabling Hardware Acceleration under Settings > General > Performance allows Firefox to use your computer’s GPU for smoother browsing. If these steps don’t help, consider refreshing Firefox, which restores default settings while keeping bookmarks and passwords.

If you want to update Firefox to the latest version on your computer, start by opening the Firefox browser. Then, click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner, and select Help → About Firefox. On this screen, Firefox will automatically check for updates. If a new version is available, it will start downloading it right away. Once the download is complete, you’ll see a “Restart to update Firefox” button, clicking this will close and reopen your browser, applying the update. Updating Firefox not only gives you access to the latest features but also ensures your browser is secure and runs efficiently with the most recent performance improvements.

Setting Firefox as your default browser ensures that every link you click whether in an email, document, or another app automatically opens in Firefox. On Windows, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps, find Web browser, and select Firefox. On Mac, open System Preferences > General, then choose Firefox from the Default web browser dropdown. Firefox also provides a quick option under Settings > General > Make Default, which will guide you through setting it as your default.

How can I get Firefox to stop automatically downloading links? I've selected the "ask me" option in settings and that doesn't stop it. In the past it worked fine but for the last several months I've tried everything and it won't ask me what file to put it in. Now, every PDF gets automatically sent to my Adobe cloud (which I definitely don't want as I'm planning to ditch Adobe at the end of my current subscription) and I have to go through a convoluted work around to even be able to get it downloaded into the file where I need it to be. Can you please help? Thank you! ~ JTucker

Hello, Having followed the advice as under: If you've previously made use of Firefox Sync, please make sure you're signed into your Mozilla account and have enabled Bookmarks within your Sync settings, because Firefox will automatically download any available data from our sync servers as long as you are logged into the account you used to sync.
Additionally, please consider that if your bookmarks are still available in the local storage of another device, signing into Sync on these devices will let you upload this account data and make your data accessible on any other devices you enable Sync on.
Andd checking the the Bookmarks tick-box was checked [as was last attempt] I tried to sign in to open the required page, but got 2 x 'error' windows, as attached, one for enail address [been using this for 2 yaers] and the other for password [how did I get this page up with the wrong password??]
I'm obviously a very dim Brit . . . . . please would you advise me as clearly as possible about whatv the heck is going wrong, thanx Kr CB
