Yesterday afternoon emails suddenly stopped going out. I sent an email successfully at 2:18 p.m. At 2:57 p.m. I couldn't get anything to send. Today the problem persists.

I have not changed anything. My roommate also uses Thunderbird and has not had any problem. I've compared my settings to hers and they seem to be the same. I have closed and reopened Thunderbird with no improvement.

I'm using Thunderbird 128.8.1esr (64 bit). I'm including images of the error message and the server settings.

Thanks for any help. Nancy

I just created a new contact, and set their time zone to "Europe/Zurich". After saving the contact, I exported the CardDAV address book in vCard format from "https://carddav.OMITTED/addressbooks/OMITTED/addressbook/?export", the time zone just shows up as "Europe/". So either the form data is being handled improperly by Thunderbird, or the CardDAV server is handling it improperly. I'll also file an issue with sabre/dav in case the problem is with them.

The server (run by a third party) is running sabre/dav 4.6.0:

❯ curl https://carddav.OMITTED

< d:error xmlns:d="DAV:" xmlns:s="http://sabredav.org/ns">
  < s:sabredav-version>4.6.0</s:sabredav-version>
  < s:exception>Sabre\DAV\Exception\NotAuthenticated</s:exception>
< s:message>No 'Authorization: Basic' header found. Either the client didn't send one, or the server is misconfigured. Login was needed for privilege: {DAV:}read on </s:message>

I have changed my passwords on 2 gmail accounts I import to TB. Usually when you do that and TB retrieves email from gmail, you get a credential popup because the password doesn't match. Usually when you get that popup you click "next" and put the new password in and everything works as it should. I have been messing with this for 2 days now. I get the gmail credential popup, but when I click "next" to continue, I then get an error 400 from google? You can't do anything else after that. That darn popup just keeps coming and coming every time TB tries to retrieve email. Anyone else having this issue and found how to fix it? Is it a TB issue or gmail/google issue?

Thunderbird 115.x - Can't Delete Messages

Running Thunderbird 115.10.x on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 on an older Samsung Note 9 Pro 15 w/ an 8th gen Intel i7, 16GB RAM and an aftermarket 1TB SSD w/ over 660GB of free space. I have emails going back to 1997 in the Sent folder (16K sent emails). While running Thunderbird 115.9.x earlier today, I noticed I suddenly could not delete emails out of my Inbox. The following error message was displayed:

The messages could not be moved or copied to folder 'Trash on [username@domain.com]' because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again.

So I did that to no avail. I then tried to delete messages out of other folders as a test (Sent, Drafts, etc.) figuring I could simply move them back if successful. Received the same error message. Closed all applications and rebooted the laptop as it had been running for several days. Same error message.

Did some research which all told me to delete the Trash MBOX files (including the .msf file). Did that, same result. Launched in Safe Mode, same result. Created a Trash.txt file, removed the .txt file extension and relaunched Thunderbird. Same result. Compacted all folders and relaunched. Same result.

If I backup the current folders and restore from them, I'll get the same result. Anyone have a new idea or set of instructions I can follow?

Thanks!

Hi I've recently started using Thunderbird & have made several customisations & created a userChrome.css file. I find the yellow star on a starred message a bit to easy to miss. Is there a way to either make the yellow star another colour or to make the starred message in the message list another colour (like Outlook does)? The only info I have found so far makes all stars change colour - starred on unstarred. That defeats my objective. Thanks, Tony

Last night (9/23/2024), Thunderbird began presenting a screen (see attached) requiring me to sign in to contine to Mozilla Thunderbird Email. At the top of the screen is a "Sign in with Google" line. However, there is nowhere to sign into anything. My correct email is displayed but no entry for a password.

Clicking "Next" takes you to an Error 400 screen. There is no "Close" button and the only way out of the screen is to hit "Esc," which takes me to my Email account. After a short bit, the screen refreshes back to that " sign in to contine to Mozilla Thunderbird" screen. After one or two more uses of :Esc, I can get back control of my laptop.

Meanwhile, Thunderbird is frozen--mail doesn't update, and any attempt to use T-Bird returns me to the sign in cycle. Win 11; TB ver, 128.2.3esr (32-bit); server security imap.gmail.com, port 993, outgoing server smtp.google.com, authentication OAuth2. I've accepted cookies and javascript and closed my VPN. can't figure what to do next.

I installed Thunderbird 136.4 (64-bit) today on a new windows 11 Pro PC. I created 4 - POP3 accounts. The 1 gmail address downloaded all older emails from the servers, but the 3 TDS email addresses only downloaded a couple of months of emails. I can't find a setting that will find and download older emails. I checked the online TDS accounts and they have years of emails on them. Anyone else have that problem? Is there a solution anywhere?

One day I tried to send an email, and it failed. This just happened suddenly without me touching any of my settings. When that happened, I researched reasons and have tried everything. It's an outgoing server error. I tried changing it to what my email provider and the internet says it should be, but nothing works. I even called Spectrum, and they said I needed to contact Thunderbird support.

Two days ago, my Google calendar sync stopped working. I tried to add them again, but now, for a change, I can't see events at all, even though Thunderbird plugins theoretically got access to calendars. Should I wait for an update? Is this a global problem? How can I solve it?

During my messing around while trying to solve a UI problem arising from a migration to a new-to-me used Mac, I found a way to change the font size in the "Subject" field of e-mails in their own window, and as an experiment made it larger. It did not change the other problem, which has been solved.

Now I can't re-find that place in any of the settings, and want to change it back to the default. Please, someone, anyone, where is it?

I use Thunderbird on two user IDs on the same Mac, which is running macOS 15.3.1.

I usually run Thunderbird updates on user 1, but this time I ran the it (to 128.7.0esr) on account 2, and I can no longer launch it on user 2. (Note: Neither user is an admin account.)

Steps: 1. On user 2, launch Thunderbird. 2. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.7.0esr. 3. Click the Restart to update button. 4. Get the dialog that there's an update to 128.7.0esr. 5. Click the Restart to update button. 6. Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper. 7. Enter the admin ID and password and click OK. 8. Get a (surprise) dialog to authorize Thunderbird to discover my devices. 9. I choose to deny.

Expected result: Thunderbird relaunches, now with 128.7.0esr. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.

10. Log off user 2 and log on to user 1. 11. Download 128.7.0esr from the Mozilla website. 12. Check the hash. 13. Install, choosing to replace the old Thunderbird in the shared Applications folder. 14. System Settings, About, System report, Applications 15. Verify the signature is signed by Mozilla 16. Launch Thunderbird

Expected and actual result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally.

17. Log out of user 1 and log into user 2. 18. Launch Thunderbird

Expected result: Thunderbird launches and I can use it normally. Actual result: Get the dialog to enter admin ID and password for installing the Thunderbird helper.

I'm guessing there's some manner of residual file that's preventing Thunderbird from launching on user 2. I've verified Thunderbird is in the system's Application folder and not in user 1's files.

How do I clear the pending install from user 2 so that Thunderbird will launch for user 2?

Every few months, my message sorting will switch to threaded mode. It did it again within the last couple of days.

I thought maybe it reverts to defaults whenever an update comes through, but update history shows my last update was Sept. 12 (exactly a month ago), and I used T-Bird yesterday, and messages were not threaded then.

I'm thinking that if I change the defaults to "unthreaded", this would stop happening, but I'm curious if it's common for it to randomly switch to the default irrespective of updates.

Would the computer rebooting (whether manually or automatically for, say, Windows updates) cause it to revert to defaults - is that what's going on?

What can be done so I get my emails everytime Thunderbird is supposedly checking for emails? I am using Port 993 and IMAP. Should things change at all? Thank you.
