Why does Firefox for Android suck?
Firefox on Android 2.3.7 is probably the worst software I have every used. Short of booting up, it is an unusable product.
1. Horizontal orientation distorts the graphics to an unusable state. 2. Accessing text entry fields pop up the keyboard, but distorts the webpage graphics to an unusable state. This only happens when the keyboard is up. Everything returns to normal when I lower the keyboard. Only the text entry fields on the Add-ons page work properly. 3. Adding search engines from search fields doesn't work on two engines I've tried: dictionary.com & priberam portuguese dictionary.
Major functionality is broken here. How long will it take to fix this?
First, Firefox for Mac let me down because to this day, the back & forward page animation is still not present. The feature was first introduced to Safari 2 years ago. After enough time passed, I've moved on to Safari.
Then, I install Firefox for Android to find this mess, which still continues over 6 months since I first installed it. I've had to resort to Dolphin this whole time.
Finally, I'm seeing low quality updates come through on the Windows platform. I've used Firefox since 2.0 (maybe earlier), but my loyalty is being stretched thin. Don't think you can continue on the same path without a backlash. I haven't found a good alternative yet, but I'm looking.
Chosen solution
Sounds like you are on one of the following phones Motorola Defy XT, Samsung Appeal, Galaxy Mini 2 (GT-S6500), Galaxy Ace Q (i827d), HP Touchpad. These have some graphics drivers that behave oddly with Firefox on Android.
We have improved adding of search engines on our trunk builds. The changes should show up as part of Firefox 24. For now engines can be added from http://mycroftproject.com/
I can't speak to the Mac issues.
