I exported my Chrome bookmarks to an HTML file on my desktop. Firefox 4 Beta 10 doesn't show me an option to import those bookmarks, can you help?

Chosen solution

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

You can also use:

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the Firefox 4 beta versions.
You can click the orange Firefox button to open the menu and click the Bookmarks entry or open the additional Bookmarks menu via the arrow and click "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Library.

There are other things that need your attention:

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks that you should update.

  1. Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53
  2. Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_17 for Mozilla browsers

Press either Alt or F10, that will temporarily display the traditional menus, you can then use "File > Import" to import from the HTML file.

In the File menu, Import is greyed out.

Are you in private browsing mode, in that mode some items such as import are unavailable - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing

Yes, I was in Private Browsing and by leaving it the Import option became available. However by clicking on the Import option in the file menu it only included importing from IE, not the HTML file that I created from the bookmarks on my Chrome browser
