Firefox Android - Disable new tab

Firefox on Android (latest version) opens everything on a new tab. So bookmarks, pinned sites etc. are all opened in a new tab. Is there a way to make Firefox use the current tab? I don't want to have a million tabs open for every site, bookmark or pinned site I visit. I've checked the settings but I can't find that option anywhere.
