I've noticed on certain sites, buttons that are supposed to do some thing (for example, play a sound file) don't do anything. I thought it was a problem with javascript, but I'm not really sure.

I'm using Firefox on an Android (Kitkat) phone . Here is an example where it doesn't work. http://podiobooks.com/title/a-coffee-crusade/

There is a red button which is supposed to play the audio when selected. Nothing happens. Works fine in Firefox on the Desktop.

Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the screen shot, I didn't check far enough down before. On Lollipop, touching any of those links displays icons for different applications, but the Firefox icon only downloads the file and doesn't play it in the browser. But either way, the direct links definitely work vs. playing through an in-page player.

I have the same problem.

That button is supposed to fire up an MP3 track in an HTML5 player, but Firefox for Android doesn't appear to be able to play MP3s that way, and it is just quietly dying without an error message. Apparently this is a known issue on Android 5+ (I can't play videos or audio on Firefox for Android 5.0 (Lollipop)).

Some sites make it easy to download the MP3, but sites like this one do not.

I'm not sure of the best workaround in this case.

It's a possibility, but there are some differences. MY Android version is 4,4x (kitkat). Just below the button on the page I posted above you'll see "Download episodes".

Selecting this using the Desktop Firefox, the links to the chapters appear, and if you hover the mouse, you see they are direct links to the mp3 files. If you left click on the links here they start to play in Firefox. Similarly, these links also play in the Android phone. There is no other app that has opened, as far as I can see.

This is what led me to believe it may have been a javascript issue regarding the button. Thanks for your response. Dave

Sorry, I can't replicate your setup. I don't have the right version of Android, and I don't have download links (the links I see only change what the player is supposed to be playing).

On conventional systems, there are rich tools for debugging, but on Android, I don't know how to access even error messages... hopefully someone else will have an idea.

Well here's another JPG, perhaps yourself or some body else can replicate what I see. The second set of links are at the bottom left, in blue, under "download episodes".

They are direct links to the mp3 files. These work on the phone directly. http://www.mediafire.com/view/x63n5g6nwz7rn86/podiobooks_img2.JPG

Thanks for checking it out. Seems your combination of Android/Firefox behaves differently to mine. As I mentioned earlier, my phone/Firefox plays those files (from the direct links) without going to an outside app.

The whole thing works perfectly in Chrome, but then you have to suffer all those ads...
