Note: This issue mainly affects Firefox 25 and up. However, if found, BitGuard should be removed from your computer.
Note: This issue only affects Windows computers.
If you've updated to Firefox 25 and it now crashes frequently or crashes when starting, it may be due to BitGuard software installed on your computer. BitGuard is often installed unintentionally while installing or updating other software from the Internet. This article explains how to get rid of it so Firefox can run normally.

Uninstall BitGuard
- Click the Start Menu and select . The Control Panel window will open.
- In the Control Panel window click on Add or Remove Programs. The Add or Remove Programs window will open.
- From the list of currently installed programs, select BitGuard.
- To begin the uninstall, click the button to the right of BitGuard.
- Click the Start Menu and select . The Control Panel window will open.
- In the Control Panel window click the Uninstall a program link under the Programs section.
- From the list of currently installed programs, select BitGuard.
- To begin the uninstall, click the button at the top of the list.
- Switch to the Desktop by selecting its tile from the Start Screen.
- From the Desktop, hover in the upper right-hand corner to access the Charms.
- Select from the charm. The Control Panel window will open.
- In the Control Panel window click the Uninstall a program link under the Programs section.
- From the list of currently installed programs, select BitGuard.
- To begin the uninstall, click the button at the top of the list.
Check your computer for malware
In order to prevent BitGuard from reinstalling itself and to remove other malware on your computer, you may also need to run a malware removal tool. We recommend the free version of Malwarebytes.
