Firefox browser collects telemetry data by default. Mozilla does this to help improve performance and stability.

Telemetry data comprises two data sets:

  • interaction data
  • technical data.

What is interaction and technical data?

Interaction data includes things such as:

  • session length
  • the number and types of installed add-ons
  • the number of open windows
  • the number of open tabs and how long they were open
  • Firefox features offered by Mozilla or our partners, such as interaction with Firefox search features and search partner referrals
  • the number of webpages visited.

This data set does not include your specific interactions with Firefox. For example:

  • it does not include the addresses or domains of webpages visited.

Technical data includes things such as:

  • Firefox version and language
  • device operating system, memory and hardware configuration
  • basic information about crashes and errors
  • the outcomes of automated processes such as updates, safe browsing and activation.

Can I learn more about Mozilla's handling of telemetry data?

Yes! See the in-depth documentation about our data pipeline.

Any data collection or sharing adheres to our Firefox data collection policy.

Can I learn more about the telemetry for my browser?

Yes. Type about:telemetry in your browser’s search bar. This page will show you the telemetry data being sent to Firefox for your current session. You can also see archived information.

For more information about any probe, see our probe dictionary.

How long do you keep telemetry data?

We keep telemetry data for 13 months.

IP addresses

When Firefox sends data to us, your IP address is temporarily collected as part of our server logs.

IP addresses are deleted every 30 days.

How do I opt out or delete telemetry data?

You can opt out of sending Firefox telemetry information at any time.

If you opt out, we will also treat this as a request to delete any data we previously collected. Data will be deleted within 30 days after you opt out.
