In Firefox version 137, you can use tab groups to manage open tabs in Firefox by grouping them together and labelling them.

Creating a tab group

  1. Select a tab from your tab bar (either vertical or horizontal), and drag the tab onto another tab until you see a highlighted area, then release.
  2. You will then have the option to name the group and choose a color. These can be changed at any time.

The label that you select will be visible in the tab bar, and you can select this label to explain the group to see the tabs within it or to select it again to collapse the tabs into the tab group.

Add an existing tab to a new tab group

Right-clickHold down the Control key while you click and select Add Tab to New Group to add an existing tab you have opened to a new tab group.

Removing a tab from a group

Select the tab that you want to remove from the group and drag it out from the group to a different position on the tab bar. Alternatively, you can also remove a tab from a group by right-clickingholding down the Control key while you click on a tab in a group and selecting Remove from Group.

Managing a tab group

Right-clickHold down the Control key while you click on the group name or color to see options for that tab group:

  • You can manage the name and the color for the tab group.
  • New tab in group will add a new tab to the selected group.
  • Move group to new window will open that group in a new Firefox window.
  • You can Save and close group that will save and close the group for you to be able to re-open from the List all tabs icon Fx137ListAllTabs on the toolbar. This toolbar icon can be removed if you wish – this support article will help.
  • Tab groups created when using Private Browsing will be deleted when you close the Private Browsing window.
  • Ungroup tabs will keep the tabs open, but no longer grouped.
  • Delete group will delete the group. If you delete the group, it will not be saved and will no longer be available from the tab bar.
