Transfer information from the old to new Firefox for Android (Nightly or Beta)

Firefox Nightly for Android and Firefox Preview Nightly are no longer being supported, but you can transfer your browsing information from these old versions to the new Firefox Nightly. We'll walk you through the steps here.

You can move your bookmarks, saved logins and browsing history by enabling Sync on your current Nightly browser, then on the new Nightly.

Enable Sync on Firefox Nightly

Step One: Sign up for a Mozilla account

  1. Tap the menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) and select Settings (you may need to tap More first) .
  2. Tap Turn on Sync (this might say Sign in on some versions of Nightly.) The Mozilla account page will open in a new tab.
  3. Sign in if you already have an account. Otherwise, continue with the following steps to create an account.
  4. Tap the Create an account link at the bottom of the page or sign in if you already have an account.
    • Fill out the form to create an account and tap on Create account. Take note of the email address and password you used, you'll need it later to log in.
  5. Check your emails for the verification link and tap on it to confirm your account.

Step Two: Choose the information you want to sync

  1. Tap the Menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) .
  2. Tap Settings (you may need to tap More first) .
  3. Tap your email address that displays at the top.
  4. By default, your bookmarks, history and logins are set up to sync. Uncheck the boxes next to anything you don’t want to sync between devices.
    Your changes will save automatically when you exit.

Download the new Nightly and enable sync there. (see final step for more instructions).

Enable Sync on Firefox Preview Nightly

Step One: Sign in to Mozilla account

  1. Tap the menu button android menu icon

  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Turn on Sync.
  4. Sign in using the QR code pairing or email login. If you don't have a Mozilla account, tap the Use email instead and enter your email address. Firefox will walk you through the steps to create an account.

Step Two: Choose what to sync

  1. Tap the menu button android menu icon

  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap your email address.
  4. The following are set up to sync by default. Uncheck the items you don’t want to sync.
    • Bookmarks
    • History
    • Logins

Download the new Nightly and enable sync there. (see final step for more instructions).

Final Step: Download Firefox Nightly and turn on Sync

  1. Find Firefox Preview in the Google Play store or tap here.
  2. Enable sync on Firefox Nightly by tapping the menu button, then Settings, then Turn on Sync or by following the steps in How to set up Firefox Sync in Firefox for Android Beta.
  3. The information you chose to sync will be synced to your new installation of Firefox Nightly.
