Sometimes sharing your cellular data is the only way to get connection. With Firefox OS, you can connect other devices and your friend's devices to your mobile network

Warning: While sharing data via Wi-Fi can be a brilliant solution to get everything connected on the move, it can also be financially dangerous unless monitored. Connecting other devices will use the "data allowance" allocated by your carrier. Breaching this allowance often won't stop you using data, but instead cost you for every megabyte you use. Mozilla is not responsible for any data charges at any time.

Creating and Editing the Hotspot

  1. Open the settings app by tapping settings icon
  2. Tap Internet Sharing
  3. Tap Hotspot Settings
  4. You may edit your hotspot name, also known as the SSID network name. Type into the textbox SSID Network Name
  5. Select a security type for your network by tapping the security field to enter a drop down menu. Your network can be:
    • Open: anybody can access your network without a password
    • WPA Secured
    • WPA2 Secured: WPA2 is the most secure but this isn't supported by some older devices, so if you use an older devices, select WPA.
  6. Press OK to complete the setup of your network.
Warning: Leaving your network open means that anybody has unlimited access to your data, which could cause issues as noted in the warning above. This also gives people higher opportunity to be able to steal data from your device

Enabling the Network

  1. To open the settings app, tapsettings icon
  2. Tap the button Internet Sharing
  3. Confirm that the displayed settings are correct
  4. Make any amendments using the previous section
  5. Turn the Wi-Fi Hotspot on by pressing toggleoff2.
    • After it is turned on, you will see toggleon1

Connecting to Wi-Fi

This article is not for connecting to Wi-Fi but creating a Hotspot and enabling it. Visit Connect to Wi-Fi or data if you need help connecting to Wi-Fi. Connecting to a Wi-Fi hotspot is the same as connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
