Firefox for Android comes pre-installed with multiple search engines for you to choose from. When you enter a search without selecting a search engine, Firefox automatically returns results using a preselected (or default) search engine. The default search engine also provides suggestions as you type in your search.

While the pre-installed and default search engines may change in new versions of Firefox as we evaluate various providers, Firefox for Android gives you ultimate control over your searches by making it easy to change and manage your search engines.

Change your default search engine

Changing the default search engine is easy on Firefox. Here's how to do it:

  1. Tap the Menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) .
  2. Tap Settings (on some phones you may need to tap More first).
  3. Tap Customize, then Search.
  4. Tap the search engine that you would like to set as default and choose Set as default.

Add or remove search engines

As you type in a search, Firefox for Android will suggest multiple search engines for you to use. If you don't see your favorite search engine on the list, follow these steps to add it:

  1. Go to the site of the search engine you want to use. For example, youtube.com.
  2. Tap and hold inside the search box and choose Add a Search Engine.

To remove a search engine:

  1. Tap Settings (on some phones you may need to tap More first).
  2. Tap Customize, then Search.
  3. Tap the search engine that you would like to delete and choose Remove.
