Firefox lets you choose from a number of built-in search engines to set as your default. After updating to Firefox version 98, you may notice that your default search engine had been changed.

Why did my search engine change?

This change is happening because Mozilla was unable to secure formal permission to continue including certain search engines in Firefox. We provided an opportunity to previously-included search engines to sign an agreement and the engines that did not complete the agreement will be removed from Firefox.

What happens now?

After upgrading to Firefox 98, a notification will appear at the top of the browser, alerting you that your default search engine has changed. It will also tell you what your new default search engine is and redirect you to an article with instructions on how to change to another search engine if you wish to do so. SearchEngineInfobar98

Will I be able to reconfigure my preferred search engines after this change is implemented?

If you wish to continue using an engine that has been removed, you will need to install a third-party search plugin or extension for that engine. Optionally, you can configure another search engine from the ones available. To learn more, visit Add or remove a search engine in Firefox.

What countries will be affected by this change?

This change will apply to people in all countries who are using an affected search engine with Mozilla.
