Search and Find tools in Firefox for Android

Firefox for Android includes tools for making web and text searching easy with less typing.

Search engines

Firefox for Android includes built-in search for Google, Amazon, Twitter and Wikipedia.

  1. To start your search, tap the Title bar or + at the top of any screen.

  2. Type your search keyword.
    The list of built-in search engines appears.

  3. Tap the engine you want to use to complete your search.

  4. The search is performed by the chosen engine and results are narrowed to that site. This example shows the result of choosing Amazon.com to complete a search for the word flowers.

Find in page

Firefox 14 for Android does not support text selection or find-in-page, but it is fixed in the latest version!

Find in Page

  1. To use Find in page, tap the main menu > More and select Find in page.
  2. Type the word you want to find.
    The word gets highlighted on the screen.
  3. Use the up or down arrows to move to the next instance of the word.

Search Suggestions

Firefox lists Google search suggestions alongside relevant search history and bookmarks.

  • To toggle the search sugggestion feature on, tap the Menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) , then Settings and select the Show search suggestions check box.
    • Tap the address bar at the top of the screen to search and Firefox will show you suggestions as you type.

How do I change the default search engine?

Firefox for Android lets you change the default search engine from the add-ons manager. To change the default search engine:

  1. Tap the Menu (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) , then tap Tools (on some phones you may have tap More first) and tap Add-ons.
  2. Tap on the search engine that you would like to set as default and tap on Set as Default (Note: the Set as Default button will be disabled for the current default search engine).
