When you capture screenshots from a top 100 website, it determines which of the 11 categories that website belongs to and anonymously lets Mozilla know which categories were captured. This information helps us understand what the most popular categories are and lets us improve features such as Top Sites. Mozilla does not see the URL, image of the page or any information that identifies you.

If you don't want to send Mozilla this information, you can turn this setting off at any time.

Turn off category collection

  1. Tap the menu button (three dots) at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the switch next to Send usage data to turn it on or off. Blue means it's on.

What are the categories?

Website types are grouped into 11 categories:

  • Search engine
  • Video site
  • Social network
  • Web portal
  • Web portal (News)
  • Web portal (Sports)
  • Web portal (Lifestyle and Health)
  • Shopping
  • Collaborative
  • Email
  • Weblog
  • Banking
  • Other
Mozilla receives only the anonymized category for the screenshot. It does not see the URL or any information that identifies you.
