More for Thunderbird: o Vote on & suggest improvements at Connect o Participate/Contribute o Get Support

This article introduces the most interesting new features, improvements, and changes visible to users which are available in Thunderbird Release for Desktop. For full details, please refer to Thunderbird release notes - What's new and known issues.

Thunderbird 140 / ESR 140 Eclipse

Dark Message Mode

Thunderbird now automatically displays your messages in dark mode when enabled in your operating system settings. If there are display issues with a message in dark mode, you can disable dark mode for that message by sliding the toggle to the right to disable dark message mode.

New Appearance Panel in Settings

The new Appearance panel, Thunderbird app menu > Settings > Appearance, allows you to toggle your message list layout between Card and Table view, adjust your Cards view, and set your default folder sorting order and threading options. For more details, please refer to Appearance Panel - Layout, Message List, Card View, Table View, Sorting and Threading settings.

Native OS Notifications

Thunderbird now uses your operating system's built-in notifications, whether you’re on Windows, Linux or Mac. You can now quickly delete, archive, or use customizable actions directly from your notifications.

Redesigned Account hub

The newly redesigned Account hub makes it easier to add an account. Connect all of your emails, address books and calendars in a few easy steps. The Account hub is currently not enabled for your first account (you will see it when you add a second account). It is also not enabled by default for your address book. You can change the defaults in your Thunderbird app menu > Settings > General > search for Account hub.

Manual Folder Sorting

Drag and drop your folders to get the order you want.

Experimental Exchange Support for advanced users

Preliminary Microsoft Exchange support is available for you to try. Our current, initial implementation of Exchange is limited to email – account setup, folder management and writing, receiving and reading email.

We recommend you try this in a test Thunderbird profile in Thunderbird Beta (please ensure you back up your profile before starting). Please refer to our Thunderbird:Exchange wiki page for full instructions.

Export for Mobile

Generate a QR code to quickly transfer your account settings and credentials to your Thunderbird for Android app. Please refer to Import settings and data into Thunderbird for Android.

Horizontal Scroll for Table View

Table view now supports horizontal scrolling. This allows you to view wide messages – for example, data in a table with many columns.
