Mute sound in Firefox tabs
Note: Please update your version of Firefox to enjoy these latest features.
Firefox lets you identify noisy tabs and mute them in a single click. Silence tabs quickly without affecting your other tabs or windows.
When sound starts playing on a webpage, Firefox lets you know where it's coming from by displaying a speaker button in the tab:
Note: A speaker button to mute sound will be missing on tabs with Flash content, if Flash Player version 20.0.0.235 is installed. (You should still see a speaker button on tabs for sites that use a different media player, such as YouTube's HTML5 Player.) Please update Flash to resolve the issue.
Note: A speaker button to mute sound will be missing on tabs with Flash content, since the Flash Player version 11 offered by Adobe doesn't include audio notification. You should still see a speaker button on tabs for sites that use a different media player, such as YouTube's HTML5 Player.
Clicking the speaker button will turn the sound off or on for that tab alone:
Mute a tab
- Click the speaker button to turn off the sound for that tab.
-
- A line will appear over the button to let you know that the sound is off:
-
Unmute a tab
- Click the speaker button again to turn the sound back on.
-
- The line over the button will disappear to let you know that the sound is on.
-
Keyboard shortcut: To mute or unmute a tab without a mouse, you can also press Ctrl + M while on the tab.
