Revision Content

Before making any edits, it's important to understand that we treat content workflow differently based on the significance of the changes.

All new articles and major changes to support articles need to be accompanied by a content request via Bugzilla, while minor changes can be submitted directly in the article without content request.

What qualifies as minor changes

Here are what we consider to be minor changes:

  • Fixing small typos
  • Removing unnecessary white spaces
  • Correcting spelling, grammar or punctuation errors
  • Fixing wiki markup formatting (headings, bullets, numbering, spacing, indentation)
  • Updating small factual details (for example: version numbers, button or menu labels) without rewriting sections
  • Updating sections and replacing them with existing templates without changing the original context
  • Removing content and markup related to Firefox versions that are no longer supported
  • Enhancing clarity and overall user experience by simplifying instructions, improving readability, or incorporating visual cues (for example: icons and menu references) for accessibility
  • Updating broken links, links to renamed KB articles or links with the same target content
  • Adjusting tone to meet Mozilla’s support content standards
  • Replacing outdated UI screenshots with updated versions (2 or less)
  • Updating keywords
  • Adding or updating a search summary
Note: We expect small changes to be submitted together in a single revision instead of multiple revisions.

What qualifies as major changes

Major changes to Knowledge Base (KB) support articles require a Bugzilla request to begin the work and to be considered for the review and approval process. This helps us ensure accuracy, track changes properly, and prioritize review workflows.

Below are changes we consider major:

  • Incorporating changes or updates for release readiness
  • Correcting inaccurate or outdated content
  • Removing an existing section
  • Extensive rewriting (entire paragraphs or sections)
  • Substantial content additions (new instructions, FAQs or troubleshooting steps)
  • Large-scale formatting or structural changes (moving multiple sections, changing article flow)
  • Adding visuals for accessibility
  • Rewriting or renaming section headings
  • Changing the scope or intent of the article
  • Replacing outdated screenshots or adding new screenshots (more than 2)
  • Updating, adding, or removing screencasts, GIFs or videos
Note: To make the review process more manageable, major changes should be submitted as separate revisions. If submitted as a single large revision, your revision may be deferred and you’ll be asked to break it up and resubmit in smaller parts.
