We have received reports of various websites that display a fake Firefox update alert and then prompt you to download a "Firefox update" or "Firefox patch" file. This is a scam tactic trying to trick users into installing malware.
What you can do if you spot malware
- Never save and open/run unsolicited files!
- Report the web forgeries to the Google Web Forgery site.
What you can do to prevent malware on your computer
- Run a malware scan on your computer to make sure your computer was not infected. (See Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.)
- Avoid downloads from unreliable sources in the future.
To learn more about malware
Although we cannot prevent every server from giving you malware, knowing how to recognize and report it helps us keep the Internet open and safer.
