Installing and using a language dictionary
If you send messages in more than one language, you can install additional language packs in the Thunderbird dictionary. After installing a language pack, it is easy to switch the dictionary from one language to another.
Language dictionaries are deployed as Thunderbird add-ons. See the Thunderbird add-ons - frequently asked questions for more information.
How to install a new language dictionary:
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and then select or , depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button and select .
- Click on .
- On the tab, click “Download More Dictionaries”.
- Scroll through the alphabetic list of dictionaries to find the one you want.
- Click “Download Dictionary” next to the language you want.
- Restart Thunderbird.
How to switch the dictionary between different languages

- On the tab, select the desired language from the drop-down list.
- Click and close the dialog.
