As long as you are in range of a cellular network (1-5 bars at the top of your screen ) you will be able to send and receive phone calls and messages. But for anything else, like web browsing, email or using maps, you'll need a data connection. Here's how to make sure you're always connected.
Table of Contents
Turn on your data connection
Quickly toggle your data connection on or off from the notifications screen.
- Pull down the notifications tray from the top of the screen.
- Tap the data connection icon to toggle it on (turns blue) or off (turns gray).
Connect to a Wi-Fi network
Data transferred over a Wi-Fi network doesn't count against your data plan and Wi-Fi networks are often faster. To connect to a Wi-Fi network:
- Open the Settings app and choose .
- Next, tap on the Wi-Fi button to turn it on and then tap an available network to connect to it.
- If the network is secured, you will have to enter a password.
Fix connection problems
If you try to browse the web or use an app and you're not connected to the Internet you may see a "Server not found" or "Network connection unavailable" message.
Verify that you have a Wi-Fi or data connection and then try again
- Pull down the notifications tray from the top of the screen.
- If the Wi-Fi or data connection are not blue, tap them to reconnect.
- Tap the button to reload the page or app.
Clear the browser's cookies and stored data and try again
If you've verified that you have a Wi-Fi or data connection and you still get the Server not found error when trying to load a website, it could be an issue with the website itself. Clearing cookies and stored data may help.
- Tap the menu in the upper-right to open the browser sidebar.
- Tap the button at the top to open the browser settings.
- Tap the button.
- Tap .
- Close the sidebar and tap in the browser to reload the site.
