Some websites don’t allow their content to appear inside another website. If a site tries to embed a page that blocks this, Firefox will show an error that it cannot open the page:
This is a security feature on the website being embedded. It prevents clickjacking, where a site tries to load another site without permission, often to trick users into clicking something they didn’t intend.
This error isn't caused by Firefox and can't be turned off in Firefox settings. The website owner decides whether their pages can be embedded.
Why does this happen?
Some websites display content inside another webpage using an embedded frame (sometimes called an "iframe"). Websites can control how their content is used. They may block it from being shown inside another site using special security settings like:
These protections are common on:
- banking websites
- payment services
- schools and universities
- government services
- business and internal company websites
They help protect sensitive pages such as sign-in screens, account information, and payment forms.
What can I do?
If the website provides a direct link to the blocked content, open that link instead of trying to view it inside the page.
On desktop
- Right-click the link or embedded area.
- Select or .
- If you can’t right-click, try copying the link (long-press on Mac trackpads) and pasting it into a new tab.
If you can't right-click:
- Copy the link (or long-press on some Mac trackpads) and paste it into a new tab.
- If available, use any "Open", "Launch", or "Continue" button provided by the website instead of the embedded content.
- You can also drag the link into a new tab.
On mobile (phone or tablet)
- Tap and hold the link or embedded area (where the content should appear).
- Choose from the menu.
If that doesn't work:
- Try copying the link (if visible) and paste it into a new tab.
- Look for a menu button or "Open in browser" option provided by the website.
- If no link is available, try viewing the same page on a desktop computer, where it's often easier to access the original link.
What if I can't open the content?
Some websites don't provide a direct link to the embedded page. In those cases, Firefox can't open the content because the embedded website has blocked it.
If you're completing a:
- payment
- sign-in
- school or work portal
- government service
Then try visiting that website directly, if you know its web address.
If you don't know the address, contact the website that sent you to the page and ask for a direct link or another way to complete the task.
What if I need to use the original page?
Sometimes the website that’s embedding the content depends on that embedded page to work properly (for example, a school login system or internal portal).
If that’s the case:
- Try opening the embedded page directly (as described above).
- If you can access the page directly but can't return to the original workflow, contact the organization or website that provided the page. They may have an updated link or an alternative process.
- If that doesn’t help, you may need to contact the site owner and explain the issue.
Need help understanding this error?
If you're unsure what the page is trying to load or can’t figure out where to click:
- Look for a blank box or missing content; that’s likely where the blocked page should appear.
- If you're on mobile, try rotating your device or zooming out to better view hidden content.
- If you're using a school, workplace, or other managed device, your IT department may be able to provide the correct direct link.
- Still stuck? Copy the page link and share it with your IT support, teacher, or website admin.
