Bookmarks temporarily vanishing when next to tabs

  1. Hi there, I thought I would link this here since this appears to be a genuine bug. I've been experiencing this problem for as long as I've been putting my bookmarks beside my tabs.

I haven't yet been able to work out what causes it, as it never happens when I'm looking for it to.

  2. Disclaimer - following is personal opinion only.

This may be a slightly unusual customisation. I know some research has been done on numbers of bookmarks open and iirc probably the majority of users need the whole screen width and more for their usual compliment of bookmarks. I remember noticing a discussion about trying to create and test a firefox setup with 900 bookmarks open (Not recommended anyone tries that, it was in relation to troubleshooting hangs)

This is probably not something that is likely to get a support article written, we have been trying to cut down on the numbers of those recently. If it is a bug it needs investigation.

Others may give a better answer but my suggestion for the way forward is

    • continue discussion in the support forum, you already have experts looking at your original /questions/915070
    • try to find
      • what the solution is when this does occur
      • how you can reliably reproduce the problem
if many others see a similar problem you stand a chance of figuring that out fairly quickly, if it is just yourself than it is going to need your own hard work
      • if you do figure out steps to reproduce, you could consider filing a bug, if it is a firefox problem (it could be caused mainly by interaction with other software)

This thread and your sumo question would themselves be resources others could use to solve the problem, it may then even be appropriate to link from one of the existing KB articles to your post with a solution.

    ( My own ramblings
That is not a standard sumo policy but imo a great way to add value to kb articles without increasing maintenance costs - add links to other sources, we already do it with Wikipedia and Mozillazine, why not also with SUMO solutions and any other model answers.
    N.B.
workflow patterns are changing shortly anyhow, how things are done may differ by the time you solve this )
