I have two email addresses. For privacy, I will refer to them as: surname@mydomain.com (the main email address for my domain) and forename.surname@mydomain.com (an additional email address on my domain)

For several years now, I have been unable to wipe out unwanted/spam messages ('dead letters') from the main inbox, surname@mydomain.com (using shift-delete then Yes/enter). Thunderbird just strikes them through, but leaves then in the inbox. As a 'temporary fix' to clear my inbox of dead letters, I have just been moving such 'dead letters' into a local 'junk' folder, which now has more than 10K dead letters. Similarly, I can't wipe them from the local 'junk' folder. How can this be fixed, please?

But this still works fine on the second address, forename.surname@mydomain.com. However, unfortunately, a new problem has appeared today on this additional inbox, where I routinely keep all non-trivial messages as a record spanning many years. The entire inbox has been emptied, apart from one new email that arrived today! Help!

Hi Everyone,

I have Thunderbird installed on two computers. When I receive messages that are in plain text, on one computer they are being displayed in a modified format with whitespace and carriage returns removed. On the second computer the messages are not being reformatted.

What setting do I need to change so that plain text messages are not automatically reformatted?

The trouble is that these messages are written with the contents displayed out in a nice table format, and when they are reformatted it makes them very hard to read.

I have tried searching for the answer myself, but I haven't been able to find anything that directly relates to this question.

Thanks, Ian

Where do I go from here?

I am running TB 115.14.0 on a Mac. The layout is unlike anything I've seen before and I can't find a way to restore the layout I am used to and greatly prefer. Most obviously there are no column headers and no separate "From" column. I have seen several references to similar problems and a couple of them referred to "card view" vs. "table view," but I see no reference to those settings anywhere in my installation and the pages mentioning them do not seem to be describing TB for Mac.

This problem means I have no way of sorting messages by sender. (I can of course search for a given sender but that is hardly the same thing.) This problem has me thinking for the first time in years of looking for another email client. I hope there is a solution.

Hi

I use Thunderbird on Windows (now 11) for 16 years now. Currently I have Thunderbird version 128.1.1. I would like to share profile between Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04) installations on same machine. Profile folder is in a ntfs partition accessible both from Ubuntu (automatically mounted) and Windows. I managed to edit profile.ini file to point to right profile folder. On Windows evenrything workes fine. When I try to open Thunderbird in Ubuntu I get empty folder list and no account information in configuration. In the profile folder there ale many files created with names ending with corrupted are created (like folderTree.json.XXX.corrupt). Another try to open Thunderbird ends with message that profile is already in use. Any advice? Maybe I should debug starting Thunderbird (if yes let me know how to do that).

Thanks in advance. Marcin

I have used Thunderbird as my email client for years. A while ago I noticed 'nstmp' folders that I did not create and that I can not get rid of. They are subfolders of the 'inbox' under 'Local Folders'. I tried deleting them in Thunderbird (right click, select delete) but that just gets the 'processing' circle of death. I tried deleting them from the program files for Thunderbird. No luck.

Any other suggestions? They do not affect the program but they annoy me and the number slowly grows. I just got a new computer and thought I would try to fix the problem one more time.

Hi, somehow about 10 subfolders have become invisible and I can't see them. This is a shared email account so other colleagues have access to it and they can view the folders just fine. I'm using Thunderbird 115.12.2 (64-bit) on my PC and they all use Mail on Macs. I am including two screenshots, one is from my Thunderbird account where the file only shows 3 subfolders. The other screenshot colleagues’ Mail account shows about 13 subfolders which is correct. I have rebooted my machine and Thunderbird several times with no luck. Any solutions please?

Hello, the following has happened: I have a POP3 account with IONOS, which I operate with Thunderbird. Last week I installed a new virus scanner from Bitdefender. After a complete scan, Thunderbird still has all the mails in my inbox that arrived before the scan, but only the headers are still visible. The contents of the mails are no longer visible. Thunderbird has no authorization to Bitdefender “Allow antivirus software to quarantine incoming messages” The inbox has been recreated after the virus scan. Bitdefender has not issued a message about mails or inbox after the scan. Is there an archive for old inboxes somewhere? best reguards, Martin

For years I have been download/deleting emails from my Plusnet email address. This stopped working a few days ago. The attached images are (1) An AddException error message (2) A certificate from ViewCertificate

I am confused as to know what to do? The certificate has a validity entry that implies it should have stopped working August 19th ? but it worked until recently.

I will log another question on the Plusnet site, in case they could help, but anyone have any pointers?

I have not clicked on the 'Confirm Security Exception' button - although it looks like it wants me to - what are the issues/risks here ?

Thanks & regards Barry

PS Probably not relevant to the above, just FYI, but all my various email/gmail addresses are auto forwarded to plusnet. I then use Thunderbird to download and delete them, as they are filtered into a few dozen different subject folders.

The title mostly says it all. Longer version: I switched ISPs and I've retired the old ISP's email service. I use Thunderbird and I want to know if there is a setting which allows me to access the locally stored old emails without trying to contact the old ISP's server (login would be refused but I don't want to bother them). I can, of course, disconnect from the Internet and launch Thunderbird. Is there a better way?
