Unable to migrate my profile from XP to Win 7

I want to migrate my Firefox profile (bookmarks, passwords, last sites visited, installed extensions/apps settings etc) from my Win XP 64 machine to my new Win 7 machine. Firefox is up to date (34.0. 5) on my XP 64 and Win 7 machines (I manually installed the active apps/extensions on Win 7). However Firefox was originally installed on my XP machine many years ago (at least 6) if that matters.

I've read the articles and tried everything I can think of but *nothing* works.

On my XP machine, I have only the default profile (from running Firefox with the -P option). This is located in C:\Documents And Settings\TexasTim65\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1f2yd5bq.default

On my Win 7 machine I located the default profile in C:\Users\TexasTim65\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bjy0sgis.default.

Try #1) I copied the 1f2yd5bq.default folder to Win 7. I run Firefox -P but the profile manager only sees the default profile. So it apparently can't detect new profiles randomly added to the Profiles folder. So that's a no-go.

Try #2) I open the bjy0sgis.default folder on Win 7. I delete everything in this folder. I then copy and paste in everything from 1f2yd5bq.default. I start Firefox and it's got nothing. No bookmarks, no last sites visited and I assume no password info or anything else. So this doesn't work for me either even though MANY people claim this is all they had to do.

Try #3) Using the profile manager on Win 7 I added a new profile called Main. I once again copied everything from 1f2yd5bq.default into the new profile. I set Main to be the default profile used (which I know works because it uses different extensions/plugins) but of course I have nothing from my copied profile.

So I'm stumped. Something is different about my setup that isn't allowing me to migrate over in a simple manner.

TIA,

Tim

P.S. Is there any thing I can do to get Firefox to create the EXACT same profile name under Win 7 as I had under XP? I would have thought the same username would generate the same default profile but apparently it doesn't.

The latest Adobe Flash in Firefox is using about 15% to 30% of a 4-core CPU continuously which is excessive and inexcusable. Firefox displaying a video with HTML5 uses 1% to 8% CPU and the video quality is most excellent (where it is allowed to display video, i.e. no monopoly by Flash.) I have to lay the entire blame for this on Adobe and their arrogance over their assumed monopoly. I think Mozilla need to exert influence in the form of dialogue and pressure to get Adobe to kick their developers into turning Flash into an efficient and elegant program instead of the abominable memory and resource hog that it has become. Adobe have been allowed the luxury of believing themselves to have become essential. There are other companies' products that can easily replace every Adobe product and in many cases do a better job. Adobe has gotten fat and lazy. Mozilla, help Adobe to the gym. They need to lay off the Cheetos and straighten up their act.

So, I noticed that Firefox seems to have updated twice in the past week or so. Before hand, I had the browser set to my liking. I had an add-on that prevented Youtube videos from starting on their own, and I had an efficient pop-up blocker that blocked all pop-ups without fail.

I've fixed the Youtube issue with Magic Actions, but Popups are back and I'm scrambling to find even more add-ons that might remedy these issues, to no avail. Why the updates seem to have had a negative impact on what was working just fine is beyond me...I find it agitating.

That's really all I want...no pop ups with out my consent. I not have Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addition, Flashblock, Strick Pop-Up Blocker...Sites that I used to visit that forced pop-ups are now allowing the pop-ups through. Any idea?s

used to have this option before a moved everything that can be moved over over to an SSD drive. I just cant find it now.

With "Accept Cookies From Sites" unchecked, I am getting about 10 or 20 ad cookies every 5 or 10 seconds. What kinda bs is this?

I just read that the Windows Presentation Foundation plug-in ( as listed below) is a .net security update from Microsoft meant for Internet Explorer that Microsoft who has no apologies and says is malicious and can not me removed. I am able to disable it. Hopefully this will be sufficient.

I often use "open all as tabs" for a bookmark folder of weather.com "5 day forecast" sites covering the towns in a geographical region where I plan to go hiking.

One Firefox browser with six tabs for six towns in my state. "5 day forecast for Gorham," "5 day forecast for Jackson," "5 day forecast for Lincoln," etc.

The problem is the tab displays only some of the first few words of the site description: "5 day forcas," "5 day forcas," "5 day forcas," etc.

I'd like to display only the end of that sentence, which is the name of the town. This way I would have a list of towns across the top of the browser for direct reference.

I changed the "name" property of each bookmark, but that only affects the name in the bookmark collection list, not the display name of a tab in use.

On the Cookie set dialog pop-up that comes up when a site wants to set a cookie, and cookie preference is set to "ask me every time", the default selected button is always ALLOW. But in most cases one (at least me) would want to use DENY, in which case a click with the mouse is required, after the cursor has been moved over the button. If there is a way to get the default button to be DENY, only a quick tap on the Enter key would be required, which is much faster. This change would particularly be useful when visiting multiple new websites, or while going through a list of search results to check the sites, and one isn't sure yet you really will have any interest on the site and let it set cookies if needed. I am sure there must be some obscure string in about:config, but have not been able to find it. Thanks for reading.

I need to import passwords from an old version of Firefox (3..0.5) into version 28.0. I have read the other threads, but they refer to signons.sqlite which I do not have, instead there is a signons3.txt (which does appear to contain valid details but with encrypted names/passwords. I do have a key3.db however. What would be the best way to import them, preferably without uninstalling V28, installing 3.0.5, porting the necessary files, then upgrading repeatedly until the signons.sqlite is created?

I used about:memory to investigate memory usage by FF 30.

The steps: 1. Start FF. 2. Load 4 web page (two of those is on the Google Calendar forum, one - GMail with simple html view, and another - web page with text content and few scripts). 3. Build memory usage report with about:memory.

The main results: 628.23 MB (100.0%) -- explicit 333.69 MB (53.12%) -- window-objects 226.20 MB (36.01%) ++ top(https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topicsearchin/calendar/flair/calendar/8RV2ZSCoJ4E, id=436) ─49.94 MB (07.95%) ++ top(https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source...) 29.78 MB (04.74%) ++ (110 tiny)

"110 tiny" of 29.78 MB (04.74%) contains windows with another two opened web pages and 108 preloaded tabs in the Tree Style Tab plugin with about 0.20 MB (00.03%) per each _blank_ tab (it is not a problem).

Does it realy need to cosume 226.20 MB by one web page of Google Calendar help forum? How to get lower memory usage for hard AJAX web pages?

PS How to attach memory-report.json.gz?
