As I use Firefox throughout the day, webpages will just stop for a bit. Sometimes its only a few seconds, other times for a few minutes. It is most noticeable when playing videos but does happen at other times as well. During the halt, I can still access Firefox's settings and all menu items. It is just website interactions that stop.

For example, when a halt occurs on youtube, the video will eventually stop, depending on the buffer, and scrolling through the comments won't pull up any more and replies won't load. Then after a few moments, everything will start working again without issue, and all the uncompleted actions (such as opening new replies or trying to go to another page) will execute.

I used to think it was related to my computer's connection to our company's access server, but refreshing my connection through a CMD ipconfig /renewall worked so rarely that I assume it was just coincidental timing.

I also tried turning off hardware acceleration, but that had no positive effect. I'll make a separate post about that issue.

The thing that fixes it every time is odd: launching Chrome. I wanted to make sure it was just Firefox, so I tried launching Chrome, and then Firefox started working immediately. (Spotify still plays when Firefox halts too)

Is there anything I can adjust to keep this halting from happening? I can manage right now, but it is sort of annoying to launch Chrome every time.

I'm running 115.2.1esr x64 bit on Windows 7 pro. games on Facebook will not load I get 'Your browser does not support graphics API "WebGL2" error'.

In 'about:config' shows GL2 is enabled, yet Facebook games works with Google Chrome and MS Edge browsers, this seems to point to a Firefox issue.

I removed Firefox entirely, cleaning the registry etc, installed the latest version and get the same result.

Can anyone throw light on this? If need be I'll enclose

the troubleshooting info.

Thanks, Dave

Firefox 117.0.1 Windows 10.0.19045 Build 19045 Unable to download statements on Barclaycard site. Just spent ages with Barclaycard chat who continued to say Firefox does not support pdf even though I said I was downloading on many other sites no problems. On Barclaycard site I did a transaction search and downloaded the result as a pdf OK. pdf downloads open directly in Adobe reader. Trying to download a statement does nothing, no error, just nothing. Microsoft Edge works ok. Been using Firefox for years on this site no problem. A latest Firefox update problem?

I have the same issue as stated in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1390122?page=3

How does it come that it is still present in 117? Why is there no official guide or warning about this issue? I am forced to use Portable 101 where there are no such bugs. The solution in the thread is unclear and points to Microsoft, which is ridiculous. The question is how to solve that Mozilla's bug?

(Meanwhile, I can visit www.dictionary.com on Safari and Google Chrome.)

Could you please let me know what is going on?

Hello everyone,

to archieve some good old games, I use an special version of Firefox. Firefox (MyPal): 29.2.0, with Adobe Flash preinstalled, Disk-Cache

For most games it will suffice: After loading all content online, it will be available offline too. But... some audio/video files will be saved in memory cache - %temp%\mozilla-temp-files\*[random-auffix] - instead of in disk cache. After closing session they get deleted and after restart they are saved again, with another suffix.

Sample file: http://arcaneonlinegame.epizy.com/Arcane/frames_files/midi/Ophelia's Journal.mp3 that is shipped with http://arcaneonlinegame.epizy.com/Arcane/Arcane.htm

How can I tell Firefox to permanent save streamed audio/video files, like Firefox does with everything else? In the end the music should play if I open the browser offline too.

Thank you in advance for your help. Drago

I tried `firefox` `firefox-esr` `thunderbird``firefox -P`. I also deleted `~/.mozilla`, `firefox -p presaved-profile-dir` stay the same.

the `firefox binary` and the `profile dir` are all useful because I saved them to zip file and use them every day. So is there any other dir besides the 2 dir which fails the startup? even thunderbird fail with the same reason.

At some point, I've noticed that certain behaviours expected to occur when pressing the Escape key no longer did. Those behaviours mainly involved triggering some Javascript, including functionality in keyboard-related extensions, such as Tridactyl. Browser-level functionality on the other hand, such as pressing Shift-Escape to open `about:processes`, or pressing Escape to close Search Suggestions when the URL input bar, continue to work as before.

Upon investigation, I found it is specifically the javascript Keydown event that isn't being registered, while the subsequent Keyup event still is. I used https://w3c.github.io/uievents/tools/key-event-viewer.html to test this.

I also found that starting Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode (Safe mode) doesn't resolve the issue. On the other hand, creating a new profile does.

I've looked at the modified settings in `about:config`; there's a lot, but nothing stands out as being related to keyboard input or javascript.

Can someone please help me find what is causing this?

Since 117(Beta)I have an issue with Firefox refusing to apply the update it downloaded. I've tried searching left and right on the internet for a solution and one does work which is installing the newer version of the browser each time myself. But this is ofcourse not a solution in the long run.

It tries now to apply the update 118b9 to stable version 118 and it did downloaded just fine and asked me if I wanted to close the program to let it update which always worked. I've tried different DNS to see if that could be the problem, tried a clean default profile to see if that helped, I haven't tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, due to me losing my passwords and what not.

I also tried to run the stable version to see if the issue was still there and it is still there, so me using the beta channel isn't the issue here.

Using Firefox 17.0.1 on MacOS Ventura 13.6 on my 2017 iMac I am unable to connect to the internet while using Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN. All was working normally until I installed MacOS Ventura 13.6 yesterday. The VPN works normally when using Chrome or Safari. I have tried changing my network proxy setting without any luck. The default setting is "Use System Settings", using No Proxy or Auto Detect Proxy doesn't help. I don't see a switch for Enable DNS over HTTPS. All works fine when the VPN is disabled. I tried deleting the VPN a couple of times then reinstalling but that didn't help.

What am I missing here? I have used this VPN for years without any issues & it worked on Firefox until I installed MacOS 13.6...... using 13.5 I had no problems. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks...... Brad

Hi, folks. I may (or may not) need some help here to quell my confusion. You decide... If we accept the result of a google search for the definition of "word(s) grammatical meaning" (which is stated as "the meaning conveyed in a sentence by word order and other grammatical signals"), then I'd like to offer a suggestion for the grammatical rendering(s) of word(s) as viewed in some of the instructions I've found on Mozilla web pages that would really help me to better understand what the instructions impart.

I hope you folks will see that I am not being "nit picky" NOR being disparaging towards a person or their use of words, phrases, syntax, etc. in relation to their presentation(s) of examples, solutions, intructions, etc. It has been & continues to be a challenge for me to understand/comprehend what I read sometimes, due to some limitations I have (still, at age 75 even) which are akin to being dyslexic & having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). If one does a google search for these maladies, it can be found that potentially millions of people are afflicted. Depending on the web page visited, one can find varying percentages of the total populations of various geographical locations for these disabilities, which tends to support the notion that we number in the millions. So, there may be others who might benefit from the suggestion(s) offered here. If you will accept the notion that I really do appreciate the time & research folks avail themselves to (and then present via the Firefox venue) aimed at the edification of those who would benefit from their selfless actions, then please consider the following, non-dissing, presentation edits...
OK, if my premise (as stated directly above) is within the scope of Firefox verbal etiquette, then I'd like to share some requested changes to descriptions, actions, instructions, etc., that would make it easier & be less time consuming for me (and mayhaps quite a few others) to read & understand (at least) some of the articles presented on Firefox web pages.

As I paged back thru the web sites to find the web page I had visited that gave rise to my concern about understanding what I was reading, it surprised me that it took 10 clicks on web page links to do so. I bookmarked the link to the web page which had the text fill-in box I am currently using, hoping I could avoid my original 10 webpages of links, journey.

OK, here I am on a Moxilla Supprt web page "Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles" with the URL: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles PAGING down to the "Restoring a profile backup" (under the Table of Contents), I can find no reference to the location of the action described in item 1. Click the Firefox menu Button and select Exit. Where do I need to be in the Firefox app. to execute this action? After performing the action described in item 1., am I directed to the Explorer? OR, do I need to open the Explorer? OR open a cmd line prompt? in order to be able to view the two directories referenced?

For the action described in item 2., referencing "existing profile folder" and "profile backup folder", why is "profile" not the middle word in each of these three word combos? AND, if I execute the action referenced in this item, am I replacing the "existing profile folder" with the "profile backup" file (located inside the "profile backup folder "?) AND, are there any other files in the "profile backup folder" along with the "profile backup" file?

Also, is this action performed from the Explorer? or a CMD line prompt? AND, if I overwrite my existing profile with my backup profile, then I will lose all data from the existing profile that is not represented in the backup profile. That could be sizeable depending on the amount time elapsed from date when the backup profile was saved to the date the current profile is still in use.

I am further confused by the word usage in the "Important" comment: The "profile folder names" (ostensibly referencing "existing profile folder" and "profile backup folder") must match exactly. Yet the descriptions of these folders do not use the same naming format.

PAGING further down this web page to the next item in the Table of Contents, I find "Restoring to a different location". Is the action in item 1., in this section, the same as the action in item 1., of the section directly above it, "Restoring a profile backup"?

It appears as tho items 3., 4., 5., & 7., in this section, use three different phrases to describe the same entitiy (and/or its location?) i.e., the "backed-up profile folder", the "profile folder backup", & the "backed up profile folder". Are the "backed-up profile folder" referenced in item 3., the "profile folder backup" referenced in item 4., & the "backed up profile folder" all folders (directories & sub-directories)? The naming convention here is uber confusing....

AND now, so am I (confused). BUT, if I am the only one, then please ignore my ramblings above. I will take no more of your valuable time. NOR, will I need a response. With some "trial & error" scenarios (and the time to execute them), I am sure I can figure this out.

Uno, a thot does occur to me. Am I even in the right venue here to find out how to save/backup my emails stored with my online email provider? After re-reading the Firefox online support for backing up Firefox profiles, I did not come across any nomenclature identifying any emails. I mean afterall, that is what I'd like to do & reduce my burgeoning signature (footprint?) of thousands of stored online emails... SO, are emails stored in the "backed-up profile folder"? AND if so, are they one of the files in this folder? OR, are they a part of the "backed-up profile" file? (I mean if there is such a file...)

P.S... Here's a comforting tid bit of info. By cutting & pasting the URL (that I saved & briefly texted about earler) which opens the web page with this text fill-in box, I circumvented needing to select 10 different links to get here...
