So I just picked up a new laptop (ASUS Vivobook 16x), and everything is fresh on it. Additionally, this only affects some video content in Firefox, with Edge browser unaffected. In brief, what is happening is that within a couple hours of having the browser open, certain video content stops working, specifically Twitter/X videos just spin, YouTube previews stop working, and videos continually load. Netflix videos continue to work, but hover previews stop functioning. I even check the 'Stats for Nerds' on YT and it shows 0 KB network activity in Firefox.

I've tried every basic action I can think of:

  • Turning off extensions (only use Ublock and Bitwarden)
  • Browser Refresh (x3)
  • Reverting from 120.1 to 120.0, and now 199.0.1
  • Clearing the browser cache
  • Reinstalling NVidia and Intel Drivers
  • Running in Safe Mode

Only by doing a refresh or completely closing/opening the app gets videos to function again. This doesn't affect the old laptop or my desktop, which makes me think it's a rogue driver--but then why would Edge function without error over the same period of time?

Are there any settings to play with in the browser that can help diagnose?

When on Facebook, Firefox will shut down the network connection so that it can't communicate anymore, no incoming or outgoing traffic through Firefox. I opened TaskManager to try to kill the process, but it leaves a single Firefox.exe process running and it CAN'T be killed. I've tried everything I can think of. In an admin command window, normally Tasklist to check for the process and then Taskkill /IM firefox.exe would work. It comes back with process not found, even though it's in the Tasklist and still running in the taskmanager list.

When trying to kill Firefox, it always says "Firefox is currently running" with the option of close Firefox or cancel. If you select close Firefox, the window just comes up again with the same question while leave Firefox.exe still running in the taskmanager. If you select cancel, the windows goes away and the Firefox.exe process stays running in taskmanager.

So I used Sandboxie (sandbox program) to open another Firefox window to continue, which works fine for a while until Firefox decides to shut down the network connection again. I even tried logging off the user account and logging into a different user account, Firefox is still there, running and still can't be shut down. It's like a bad case of Herpes or Chlamydia or something. Then all I can do is shut down and restart the entire machine.

So to reiterate, Firefox cannot be shut down and removed from the taskmanager process list using the typical right upper corner "Red X" kill, or by way of taskmanager "end process" or "end process tree" and cannot be shut down by an admin command window Taskkill command or logging off and switching users.

I don't know if the "autoscroll issue" is an inherent attached problem or separate, but I have that one as well. I'll be looking at asomething and Firefox with a mind of its own will scroll down maybe 2 to 10 threads, sometimes stop, sometimes continue scrolling all on its own. It's annoying as hell. I will try the layout.css "false" fix and see if that works.

Both these issues only occur on my cheezy 3rd gen motherboard/computer, so the specs for cheezyness...

Supernova has been named correctly. So far it has "exploded" all over. Once again I can not click on an email link and have it open in Firefox. (1) Quick filter doesn't seem to work very well any more. It might give me what I am looking for, but when I close it quick filter, it starts putting back messages very slowly one at a time for minutes. (3) I am getting fairly constant messages that it can't write to disk because the disk is full or it doesn't have permissions (both of which are wrong). (4) I have a sub-folder that contains 2022 emails and it has started listing those emails as part of the current inbox and no longer shows them as part of the 2022 sub-folder. (5) And finally it has crashed several time.

This all started when I let the update for Supernova install and it just keeps getting worse. Any suggestions?

Firefox (x64 en-US) is our primary browser on 2 different computers: a desktop and an HP laptop. Within days of each other, both Firefox browsers on the two computers began crashing whenever we tried to use them. There has been no error message. Nothing we have done has helped, though we have only tried to fix it on the desktop. We have uninstalled it and reinstalled it on the desktop. We have refreshed the reinstalled version. We have opened it in Troubleshoot mode and it still crashed within 15 seconds. Below are the 4 most recent crash reports from today's crashes:

Here come some answers to your questions, unfortunately withot screen shots as I am uncertain how to include them without losing contact with this site:

1) I have a Norton virus program and the usual Google virus program; 2) I could not get a screen shot of my account pane as I really don't know what exactly that is and what you need from it; 3) My server settings: .telia.com Port 143, and; 4) STMP: james.samec@telia.com-mail out.telia.com

115.5.1. It has been months now since the redesign and this is still so buggy I encounter bugs constantly. Most critical is if I highlight something and try to drag it to a new location it gets deleted. No undo function available. What was highlighted is just gone permanently. I try to remember to instead copy and paste then delete from the former location but I keep forgetting and lose everything. Entire paragraphs I wanted to relocate. If I do try to copy and paste it doesn't paste on the first attempt. It pastes the second time.

At this point I think I have to switch to Webmail for sending out an email. I just can't deal with broken Thunderbird any more.

I already copied the "Thunderbird" Folder from the "AppData/Roaming" Folder. Is this the correct Data Backup so I don't loose my emails?

Hi all,

Just upgraded to Thunderbird 115(from the last Non beta version).

I have multiple email accounts.

When I click to the inbox off one of my gmail accounts it does not display to the last message received. Thunderbird opens to a message about 1/4 up into my inbox.

I have a second gmail account and this behavior does not occur.

I'm sure its a easy fix, I just can't figure it out .

I have a fairly modern Windows 10 desktop computer that has never had any trouble opening up Thunderbird but all of a sudden it's crashing all the time .

The box that comes up in the middle of my screen says Mozilla Crash Reporter. We're sorry Thunderbird had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. to help us diagnose and fix the problem you can send us a crash report...then it has a couple of boxes. your crash report will be submitted before you quit or restart... then it has a box restart Thunderbird and another box quit Thunderbird

I hope you can get this sorted out and soon as I rely on this program to work every day

I don't recall this being an issue before but now with Thunderbird when deleting multiple messages, TB freezes with the "not responding" message. The more messages, the longer the delay.

By using Shift Delete, and bypassing the trash folder it is instantaneous. Other than that, is there any other solution?

Thunderbird fails during the shutdown process. When the "X" is clicked the main screen goes away and the Windows Task bar icon shows inactive. However, if you watch Windows task manager Thunderbird is using 15 to 25% of the CPU. This may go on for a minute or more after which it will fail with an error and the Thunderbird error screen is displayed. This has been going on for 8 or 10 months now and I have ignored it it because it didn't cause me any problems. I have submitted probably 100 error reports on this. I'm running 115.5.1 (64 bit) under Windows 11.

The only extension I'm running is BirdieSync but Thunderbird fails even with this disabled. I found an old incident related to BitDefender but I do not now and have never run that extension.

This has become a very high priority of late. One of my eMail accounts has changed their sever settings. I need to make changes to that account in Thunderbird. However, because of this failure (i presume) the changes to the account are never saved and I have to remake them ever time I have to restart Thunderbird.

I have two gmail accounts. I've confirmed and re-confirmed all the SMTP settings. The weird part is that if O compose and send a message (command+return), messages just end up sitting in the outbox. I think that's what error #3 below is from. But if I then right click on Outbox and "Send Unsent Messages", they go out fine. Why would that be? They're both using the exact same SMTP settings?

I see the following three errors in the error console:

1. TypeError: nameField is null | LoginManagerPrompter.sys.mjs:67:23

2. NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIAutoCompleteInput.popup] | LoginManagerChild.sys.mjs:149

3. mailnews.smtp: NetworkTimeoutError: a Network error occurred | SmtpClient.jsm:442:17

This problem started happening early this week or late last week. I've tried both Troubleshoot Mode as well as a clean install.

Thunderbird 115.5.1 MacOS Ventura 13.5.1
