After a regular system restart (pop_os = Ubuntu) New Messge form is unreadable

Can anyone explain why my "New Message" form is now unreadable after a regular system restart? There is also a very minor change to some other interface items, but nothing so terrible as this. The version is 128.0.1esr (64-bit).
