Pevious tabs not reloading after restart

Over the last couple of months, Firefox has taken on this odd behaviour of not showing the contents of tabs upon restarting it. As you can see in the image, all the tabs are 'restored', in some sense, but when you click on the tab itself, only a blank page appears. I have found that if I duplicate the tab, the contents will appear.

Thanks so much for any help -- this is really annoying!

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
