  3. An update that came across my desk that I wanted to share here. There is a search experiment that went live to 1% of desktop users over the 6th. These 1% of users will be experimenting with Bing set as the default search engine. The study will last into 2022. The purpose of the study is to better understand metrics around if and how desktop Firefox usage changes when the default search engine changes.

It looks like we did already see something about this on Twitter: https://twitter.com/mkrnbk/status/1435342536361525250?s=20

We have some reactive comm to use:

'As a part of optimizing the Firefox experience we regularly run studies. We are currently running a study that may cause some users to notice that their default search engine has changed. To revert back to their search engine of choice, users can follow the steps in this KB article. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-your-default-search-settings-firefox fixed link. aw

  5. Frankly, I really think the team behind this study should reconsider their approch. They shouldn't change sensible settings like the default search engine without the explicit consent of the user since users' data is shared with those third parties.

  6. Something sure to come up again in the 92 release is custom configs breaking again for users. Regarding questions about userchrome.css and about:config customizations, we want to help the user as much as we can while also making sure that less experienced users do not run into recurring issues due to utilizing advanced configurations. With that said, we recommend that contributors do not bring up any type of advanced configuration to the conversation unless first brought up by the user.

I am trying to get an answer on that. Ill reply again once I have it.

I agree with you here. This could inadvertently cause some friction with users because of how the study was enabled and presented.

Here's the answer I got: There’s a 'Remote Experiments' section in the middle that shows the active experiments and also points to about:studies

  11. We do have forum common response (as well as Twitter response in Conversocial) specifically for this experiment -> Forum Response - Search study.

  13. I am wondering if there have been any bugs that have come up with the 92 release thus far? If so drop the links to bugzilla here. Next Tuesday I attend a Weekly Channel meeting where the Release mgmt team along with QA for Desktop, IOS, and Android get together and chat about bugs/stability/performance/etc.

This meeting is a good chance to bring up bugs and potentially affect upcoming dot releases. I would be able to bring up issues impacting the Support forum inbound.

  14. Hi JR.

No bugs that I am aware of. On the mobile front, no significant new issue - just the same Fenix concerns and feedback. On the desktop front what I can see are people that are encountering Proton for the first time (ESR or delayed updates) that are not too keen on it or have found that changes they have made in 89/90/01 to userChrome.css have broken again.

Thanks for your notes Paul. Support will be working on a KB article this week to help clarify expectations for users around custom configurations that we will hopefully be able to point to in future situations like this to help mitigate the user response.

When the sidebar is open, the right end of the Find bar is truncated, hiding the close button. This will be fixed in Firefox 93, and the patch has been approved for a 92.0.1 interim update (if/when there is one).

  18. I wanted to post this in the support forums under 'Firefox crashes' but you can't reply so I'll add here.

I found FF using 100% of disk space, crashing and running really slow recently w the new releases when loading and during win 10 updates. Turns out it wasn't a FF issue but a WIN 10 issue after a recent win update.

There is a file called 'Sysmain' that slows pcs down as it allocates resources during downloads. Luckily you can easily disable it.

I found after this file was disabled FF worked fine like before.

Pls see link and add to the Support ideas under the FF crashes or runs slow threads.

    Thx

  19. Firefox 92.0.1 was released. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/92.0.1/releasenotes/

Not mentioned in the 92.0.1 release notes but (in my en-US version anyway) Firefox Suggest contextual suggestions are enabled by default. See Navigate the Web faster with Firefox Suggest and Bug 1729587 Preferences UI tweaks for Firefox Suggest (approved for 92.0.1).

Also, this bug was mentioned by Seburo in https://chat.mozilla.org/#/room/#sumo:mozilla.org (to fix, see comment 11): Bug 1732506 Opened 2021-09-25 05:01 EDT Updated 2021-09-26 10:14 EDT Firefox UI language changes after updating to 92.0.1
