Numerous tabs appear whenever I open Mozilla

Numerous tabs appear whenever I open Mozilla. I have used them at some time in the past, but never all on one occasion. SOME WERE LAST USED AT LEAST SEVEN MONTHS AGO.

Related may be that sometimes when I follow a link on one website, the destination appears on my screen as a new opening of Mozilla. The previous site(s) are completely obscured

Maybe you Set Firefox to restore your previous session at startup. You can change it in settings:

Click the menu button on the right side of your toolbar. Click History. Deselect Restore Previous Session.

Brilliant ! Thank you SO much, was really getting on my nerves !

The problem has returned. Whenever I open Firefox I get numerous tabs appearing across the top of the screen --- tabs from MONTHS ago -- obscuring the tabs I am using at present. I have to delete them all individually each time.

Have taken screenshot but for some reason unable to upload Word file

Sorry to hear this. So the previous method still works?

For temporary solution, you can use private browsing: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/private-browsing-use-firefox-without-history

Thank you so much for your prompt response. In the mean time a techy friend has advised me to go to Firefox Settings > Home Page > Custom home page > Website addresses --- and click bin icons that appear there next to the list of out of date tabs. This seems to be working. Hope I can come back to your much appreciated help if need be.
