Cannot access email accounts

Neither my wife nor I can access email on our respective PCs. This has been the case for four weeks. We can access email by our Android phones, but we really want to use our PCs. I've tried to resolve the problem and failed. Previous to this failure, I had an account with BT but this was transferred to EE. When I attempt to log in to my mail account, I receive the message "Could not connect ... :the connection was refused". I can also add is that in my Account settings, Outgoing Mail server I see a message "Connection to server mail.btinternet.com:465 failed."

This is mainly an attempt to help Grainne Stevenson. Eventually, I went to a local IT repair operation and am about 99% toward a solution. In fact, my laptop is as of today behaving normally as is my account on my wife's desktop PC. The local IT people concluded that the fault lay with my anti-virus software, Kaspersky Internet Security. That was removed from my laptop and a new BT password supplied and viola! At home, I did the same on my wife's machine and we both can now use her BT account normally. The local IT people even re-installed KIS on my laptop - which I have still to collect - and the remaining 1% is the re-installation of KIS that I will do after I've been and collected my laptop and ad a chat about it - there may be wrinkles. So Grainne, have a look at the possibility of uninstalling your AV software, especially if it happens to be KIS. Good luck, Tony PS do you know Grainne Jacobsen?
