Chosen solution

It's not recommended to copy the entire contents of the Firefox profile folder between computers. The reason for this is that there is some data and file locations that are specific to your computer and may not be correct if moved to another computer.

It's recommended that you only copy the contents that you want to transfer over. A list of the important files and what information they hold can be found on the Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data page.

Mr. Branton, Thank you sir for your reply and information. I appreciate your experience and help and time very much.

Allow me to give you a brief background on my experience with computers. I have many many years experience with computers as a technician, and very knowledgeable on how to fix most things I have encountered along the way, and built custom computers before they existed etc. I have tons of experience with software and hardware for computers I have built and programmed, but no knowledge of how web browsers work behind the scenes as they usually most always worked.

I have stored 2 of the full Profiles for Windows 7 Firefox which I am using and love it, as well as well as many other newer state of the art computers running all OS's. I have a large amount of tabs in Firefox 64bit to access them when needed. However when I try to copy the full profile backup over to the new machine, it starts to load the full profile, and fails each time.

All I want to do is retrieve my saved Win 7 Profiles that have all my bookmarks working like they do on my previous older Win 7 64 bit computer. Each time it fails when I try reloading the backup Full Profile that works on my older computer. My goal is to accomplish loading the tabs for each Firefox webpage that all have multiple tabs for that page. I also have many pages that I appreciate having them handy rather than to go look for them again. This is much more productive for me.

So as a compromise, is there a way to accomplish getting the webpages I have in the other Win 7 profiles on the old machine onto the new machine, and working? I would really appreciate your help as this is very important information I use that I need accessible, to duplicate on the newer higher end computer I am using now, without any of the webpages I need as I can't get them to load onto the new computer, even replacing the profile which worked once, but not completely. Can you please help me to accomplish what should be simple goals for copying full Profiles to a newer higher end machine (Win 7 64 bit 32GB Ram, Intel Intel i7-4700MQ CPU, & SSD?.

I sincerely would really appreciate any guidance or help with this issue. I have tried my best to resolve the issue but the profile when loading to the new system will not load, and fails. I tried the things you have mentioned previously without success. Your thoughts and help would be very much appreciated to accomplish the goals. Thanks, I look forward to your reply sir and guidance. Thanks, Boater

Mr. Branton, I appreciate your time and assistance again if possible sir.... It wanted to explain my background and I have lots of computer experience (Hardware & Software) in all platforms, except I do not have much experience working with Profiles in Firefox. Ideally I was hoping to move the entire profile over to have an identical Firefox environment from my previous machine Win 7 64 bit Samsung Laptop. Apparently that is not the solution as I have tried multiple times coping the entire Firefox Profile to the new computer, which did not work.

The bottom line goal for me (which I should have included above last night), is to recover: a). Recover all my Firefox Bookmarks b). Recover each of my open Firefox Windows and associated Tabs opened in that Window, each time I start Firefox. c). Recover all my instances of my Firefox Windows browser with all tabs intact, when I start Firefox each day.

That being said, I do have backups of everything, including the multiple complete Firefox Profiles, which are working properly as described above in my old computer. I am trying to get the same results with my new computer, to have the browser windows, tabs within windows, and all bookmarks as I have on the old computer.

I have two rather large Firefox Profiles that are perfectly intact that I am hoping we can figure out a way to extract the information I would like to be able to use what is needed from each of them to "restore all the Firefox environment" I have running on my old computer that I want to copy/install on my new computer Firefox environment.

I will be happy to assist in any way, and I can send you the two complete Firefox Profiles to extract what is needed from them too accomplish my goals sir.

Thank you so very much for your help and assistance so far, I would think surely others have been presented with the same scenario, and somehow get it resolved.

Thank you again, I look forward to your reply as I have been trying to work this out for over a month now. Thanks Mr. Branton, I know your time is valuable as well. BoaterDave

This is my first time using Firefox Mozilla Support.... somehow the status was "Solved the Problem" when it has not been solved to date. The last post above by me details exactly what the next steps should be, the only problem is I do not know how to do these steps above in my last post. I rely on the data heavily and use it, but I can't get my information due to not being able to import Firefox data requested above from the profiles. Any help appreciated please and thanks again for any help on these issues. BoaterDaveMB 1.8/2021 5pm EST
