I have recently upgraded my Firefox Quantum Browser to 58.0.1 version. For days now, my Yahoo Finance Portfolio will not load to display on my Homepage (the icon indicating the loading is being attempted will run indefinitely) which it has done properly for months. It displays using Internet Explorer 11, but I have migrated to FireFox, and do not want to continue using IE11. I see that a similar problem was logged, but that user had an older version of Firefox, but I believe I have the most recent version of Frefox Quantum, as I was just prompted to do this load within the last 2 weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

        Thanks,
          Steve Y.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

If I use the 'Refresh' feature, and Firefox returns to a factory default state, does this mean I will no longer have Firefox Quantum, but will regress back to something before this? Or is this the factory default for Firefox Quantum (I currently have v58.0.2)?

           Thanks,
             SteveY.

When you use the refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks and history, form data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone. You still keep the currently installed Firefox version (58.0.2 release).

It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I refreshed Firefox as described in the step given. My Yahoo Finance Portfolio still does not display. I also lost access to my bookmarks (I don't believe I actually lost the bookmarks, but I cannot access them) but I guess I need to restore some tool bar(s) for that, as well as get my HomePage back.

In any case, the Yahoo Portfolio still seems to be loading forever, and never does. I do not think that I messed up doing the Refresh.

> Got Homepage and Bookmarks restored, so I am back to square 1 with the Yahoo Finance Portfolio not displaying on the Homepage. I can view it by going to yahoo.finance, and it also comes up through IE11. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Well, last resort here. Save your bookmarks again somewhere else and downloaded the lastest FF based on if your x86 or x64 O/S and then uninstall all FF and delete the Mozilla folder. Then reinstall FF to match if your O/S is x86 or x64 and then restart after it gets done just to be sure. Then load FF and configure it to what you want and then import or restore you bookmarks back into FF. I found that when going from FF56 to FF57+ there was a change as FF now installed the version matching your O/S if it was x86 or x64 for that reason my old FF56 parts where still there and messed up the new install. After restoring my system I made sure to remove all FF56 but not deleting the Mozilla folder why-because I had Addons in them. And after starting FF57+ the Addons migrated to the new Browser and then I went back and deleted the old FF56 folder and that solved my Browser running concflicts and my Addons showed up in FF57+

Here's the latest link to FF release for all language-save the link so if you need it in the future again.

Is the Bookmarks Toolbar visible and does it have the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on it?

Do you see bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Show All Bookmarks)?

Are there backups available from the bookmarkbackups folder?

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar

See also "How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?":

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
