Yesterday while using Thunderbird on Samsung android phone the contents of my inbox completely disappeared. I searched Thunderbird's other folders such as Trash, Spam & Archive et al to no avail. This is disasterous for me. I see from a Goggle search that this is not uncommon.

This is the Thunderbird for desktop computers forum. You would be best off asking your question in the Thunderbird for Android forum where its experts can be found:

How about I just move the post to the correct forum.

Hi Anthony

Reports of inbox content disappearing is thankfully not something common on TB Android. I've only seen a single report of something similar in many years, here. My Google searches show reports related to the desktop version. Desktop and Android versions are distinct and don't share the same code base.

Thank being said, lets see what we can do to help.

I assume your account is connecting to your mail provider using Imap? (You mention Spam and Archive folders which pop connections don't offer.)

1. Have you logged in using a browser to your providers webmail and confirmed if emails are missing or still present on the server?

2. Do you have any other email client (ex TB Desktop) where the same account connects via pop3? With pop3, emails are downloaded to the local device, then typically deleted from the server.

Since TB sync's the servers view when Imap is used, deletions on the server will be reflected in the mobile app. This is one possibility worth considering.

3. Are the emails missing from only a single account? 4. Do you use the Unified Inbox?

The more information you can provide about your configuration, the better chance we have to help you.

I use IMAP on all devices. No POP instances. All devices once connected deleted the emails. The emails are missing from my primary accout. I dont use a unified inbox.

The emails disappeared while I was looking at the screen. Right in front of my eyes.

I migrated from Outlook to TB. Then this happens.

I use Better Bird on some other devices.

The list of devices I use:

Samsung S24 Ultra Samsung Fold 5 iPhone 15 ultra iPad Pro (late model) Samsung Tablet (new) MacBook M1 ultra (MacOS) Lenovo (Mint Linux) HP ZBook (Windows 10)

All devices are up to date (except Win 10, of course) all software is up to date.

No other devices were beinf used at the time of this incident.

I am a experienced user. Working with computers since the early 80's.I maintain a linux server at my home.

Hi Anthony

Thanks for the additional information. Can you expand on

What did the migration look like. Do you simply mean you added the account in Thunderbird for android and deleted the account in the outlook mobile app, or are you referring to a migration from outlook to Thunderbird on desktop?

If you were merely looking at the TB mobile app without any interaction, it would be unusual for it to trigger deletions. If the app had triggered deletions, I'd expect then to move into the deleted items folder.

The app may have simply completed a background sync and reflected deletions that occurred on the server for reasons yet to be determined. The apps debug logging isn't enabled by default so unfortunately doesn't offer any insight after the incident.

Are you connecting to a mail server you've built or manage. Do you have access to mail server logs that may allow you to trace how the emails were deleted?

If you use an outlook account, have you looked at the "recover deleted mail" option within the trash folder on their webmail?

I was using Outlook app then started using TB etc. IMAP. Outlook app was not deleted until TB was well established. This incident happened well after (more than one month) after I had stopped using Oulook.

The emails were deleted while I was using TB. no other device was in play at the time. I was away from home at the time and all other devices were not being used.

I use Bluehost to manage email provision. My domain is through them. I have no website. Domain is purely for email.

I do not have an "Outlook Account". All references to Oulook is for the use of the Outlook apps.

While I have many devices, 99% of all email management is done on Samsung phone or Mac Book Pro.
