I create a new profile and move it to a location on another drive I use the new profile, all my bookmarks etc are there. When I try to log into a password protected site such as yahoo mail, Firefox asks me for the master password but the account and login boxes are not auto completed.

Any ideas why?

Are you able to explain how you created a new profile and moved it ?

I am wondering if you did not migrate all the files. The bookmarks are included in the places.squlite database but the passwords are not. Passwords need two files key3.db and signons.sqlite see

Do you see the names and passwords in the Password Manager?

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"

You can check the signon.autofillForms pref on the about:config page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Yes moved all the files. I moved the folder and then using the profile manager created a new profile and pointed it to the folder. I was lucky I had created a restore point as if you get anything wrong in moving profiles, it really screws firefox.

I didn't check when I moved the profile but if they were not there after the move why wouldn't they be as I moved all the files? Appreciate all your comments

If you use the profile manager (the one that is currently still part of Firefox) to create a new profile it will as it suggests create a new profile. It will add the minimum of things to make a profile, but I am not sure it is intended to be pointed at a folder containing an existing profile.

If you point to an existing profile or an empty folder in the profile manager then Firefox will use that location for the new profile.
That way you can register an existing profile in the profile manager without the need to edit the profiles.ini file.
