Backup Corrupted

krishnaearth2

I recently made a backup (via the option under Account and sync in the settings), as I was switching to a new OS. Unfortunately, when selecting the backup in the new OS, I am greeted with the error message:

This file isn’t working. Try picking a different file.

According to this, my file is corrupted. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or have I just lost all my data? I no longer have access to the profile files in the original OS.

Hello,

This is usually because the firefox backup tool encounters a validation issue.

First, make sure the backup is in .zip, then extract it using a tool like 7 zip.

If the file extracts succesfully, you can find your file backup in there.

Lastly, do a manual import by going to about:profiles, and find the profile named Profile: default-release or currently being used profile. Then, look for a button named Open Folder/Show in Finder, then close Firefox. After that, back up the files you are currently using, paste the files from the backup, and try to open.

If it does not open, only replace essential files like : places.sqlite (history and bookmarks), key4.db & logins.json (saved passwords (you need both files together), sessionstore.jsonlz4 (Opens tabs from last session)

The backup is a .html file; I double checked, and trying to backup again yields a similar .html file, so I'm not sure what you mean by .zip. I am backing up from about:preferences at the bottom of Accounts and sync.
