Firefox worked yesterday, today can't access usual sites
Have used Firefox for years. Today, went to standard sites (eg weather info, local blog site) and get told they aren't secure and can't be loaded. Have tried re-installing Firefox, clearing cookies but no change. No problem with same sites from Chrome. Message is:
Looks like there’s a problem with this site
www.portlandbirdobs.com sent back an empty page. What can you do about it?
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web.
Error Code: NS_ERROR_NET_EMPTY_RESPONS

Thanks for ideas. I created a second profile and that accesses websites. Could a corrupted profile be linked (as cause or consequence) of finding for the last couple of days Windows 11 will not close down? I go to the menu and tell it to close but it took it as a restart - came back with the library image prior to log-on.

Are you using any security software you can try disabling? VPN, antivirus, malware protection etc.
Nothing that changed yesterday. I have Kasperski security on the PC and some add-ins were on Firefox but I think the re-installation would delete them.
Reinstalls keep as much profile data as possible/compatible so to get a fresh start it's better to create a new profile instead.
But this sounds more like the whole browser is blocked from accessing the outside, so I'd look into Kaspersky settings around "Safe Browsing" or "Web threats" and similar options and try turning them off for a bit to test if anything changes.
