I am trying to comprehend the VPN button on the toolbar. It clearly has an "x" to close the vpn icon, but instead it brings it up. What is the "x" close icon intending to close?

Also, while I understand it is a useful tool, I do not understand why VPN is auto-added to the toolbar. That should be an option for the user. For most people it is just adding noise, or a few extra clicks to hide. I like the way Brave does it, handling it similarly to private browsing. Is there a way to use it this way?

Thanks for any guidance/info.

Hi,

The cross means that the VPN is off. You can remove the icon from the toolbar by right-clicking it and selecting Remove from Toolbar.

Also, you can completely disable the feature as Agent virtuel described above.

That is a confusing choice of icon. I hope they change it soon.

Thanks for the clear and direct answer!
