Dear Mozilla Support,

My name is Sizhe Xiong. Today when I launched Firefox on my Windows computer, the browser suddenly required me to select or create a new profile before continuing. I had no option to skip this step, so I created a new one.

After that, Firefox asked me to log in or register a Mozilla account. I used the same Gmail address that I’ve always used for Firefox Sync, but it seems that a new account was automatically created, and all my previous data — including bookmarks, history, saved passwords, and extensions — disappeared.

When I checked my local Profiles folder under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles, I found several new folders created around the same time, but none of them contain my old data (all places.sqlite files are around 5120 KB).

These bookmarks and passwords are very important to me. Could you please help check if it’s possible to recover my old Firefox data, or if my previous Sync data can still be linked to my Mozilla account (using the same Gmail address)?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards, Sizhe Xiong

Hi,

That's weird. Firefox shouldn't just have wiped out your data. Do I understand correctly that none of the folders in \Mozilla\Firefox\Profile (included those that were created before) contain your data?

Also, don't you have an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop?

Yes, that’s correct — I don’t have any “Old Firefox Data” folder on my desktop, and I’ve already tried opening every profile folder under AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. They all look newly created (same date and very small size), and none of them contain my old data such as bookmarks or logins.

Before this happened, I was already using Firefox with the same Gmail address to sign in and sync my data. But today, when Firefox forced me to select a profile and then log in or register through “Mozilla”, it automatically treated the same Gmail address as a *new* account and created a new profile.

After logging in, everything was gone — all my bookmarks, history, and saved passwords. So it seems my old Firefox Account and this new Mozilla Account are not connected, even though the email address is exactly the same.

Is there any way to recover the data or reconnect to my old Firefox Account?

I see...

That sounds more like Mozilla account issue then. We have a direct one-to-one support for Mozilla accounts (which is a different thing from peer to peer support forum like this one).

Please submit a new ticket from this page so our support agent can assist you further.

There's a message about that above. Anyway, please ask a new question for your issue. I'll lock this thread to prevent further discussions.
