browser will not open any window. no new windows, only tab and that is a problem
Why won't Firefox open any new windows? I give ir the command to open a window and yet all i get are tabs and I never click on open a tab. I have an HP probook this for windows 10 and i am also having the same problem with Chrome. I have uninstalled and reinstalled chrome and that did not fix it so it is not that. What would cause this? I have already cleared the cache cookies history browsing etc. and nothing is fixing it. PLEASE HELP.

So if you are looking at one tab in Firefox (in the active window) and you press Ctrl+N to open a new window, instead of Firefox opening a separate window and making it the active window, a second tab appears on the tab bar of the original active window? Or nothing happens at all?
It just opens another tab. The sme with Chrome. Just antoher tab.
/everthing is a damn tab. all tabs. i hit ctr n and another tab i looked at the history and it even says tab tab for this tab for that.
what could possibly cause this?
This is a nightmare. i accdently closed this tab and lost it and i could not find my question. there has to be a better way. nobody is offering a solutoin to this problem. i downloqaded opera, i hqave had it with these two there is no way to get help. this is a problem for me. who can use a browser that lags because it won't open a window?
I can't think of any built-in feature that would cause the problem.
When you hover your mouse pointer over the Firefox icon on the Windows Taskbar, does the pop-up list only show one window?
What if you check Firefox View? Either:
- click the file drawer icon at the left end of the tab bar
- type or paste about:firefoxview in the address bar and press Enter to open it
Then in the left column, click "Open Tabs" to show a diagram of open windows and tabs.

Try Ctrl+Shift+T (reopen last closed tab) or the History menu > Recently Closed Tabs.
No hovering doesn't show anything, but if i click it it will show a list of options to open new window, new tab and of other sites i have visited. I try to click open window which is what i usually did but realizingnow it is all tabs and why so hard to search online. It is even worse in Chrome. I downloaded Opera maybe a new younger fresher browser will be more simpler as I think these older ones get jammed up with all the things they try to be and do. I don't see too many rushing to help so this must be some really weird problem. thanks for your help. I hope someone can figure it out.
If you right-click the second tab and then
Move Tab > Move Tab to New Window
does Firefox detach that second tab to a new window?
