Why do my desktop shortcuts have firefox icons?
I have several shortcuts on my desktop. More than one appears with a FireFox icon instead of the corresponding icon which would normally belong to the icon. This is only happening on one of my computers and not on the other. I'd like to correct the icons in having be with the appropriate website's icon; i.e. Yahoo should have a purple "Y", Accuweather should be a large orange sun.

This is most likely because you have the default application set to FireFox and it's sending to a Hyperlink.
Thank you for your response. I am in need of some clarification. I have Firefox set as my default browser. Is this what you mean by my having a "default application set to FireFox"? If so, we all have default web browsers don't we? Would another web browser also send a hyperlink? Is there a way to undo this Firefox sneaky trick?
Hi Cheryl, If I understand you correctly, you want the desktop shortcuts for web sites to show the relevant icon, right? The easiest way that I found to do this is to navigate to the site, then drag the url to the desktop. A shortcut will be created with the proper icon. (Of course, you will need to re-size your Firefox window so that you can see your desktop).
Hope this helps!
Yes, your instructions are correct. That is exactly what I do to create all of my shortcuts. Thank you. However, my question reads "why do my desktop shortcuts have the FireFox icon" as opposed to the corresponding icon which accurately represents the website; i.e. Yahoo has a purple icon with a large Y--I have a Yahoo shortcut with the Firefox foxtail. I also have the fox for 3 other desktop shortcuts. Confusing.
Hi Cheryl, I just went to Yahoo and dragged the url to my desktop. See the screenshot.
That is exactly what I was saying. That is the icon I should be getting, I get the FireFox foxtail and more than once. Several of my icons are not the correct corresponding icons. The shortcuts work properly, they all have names and they all take me to where the icon is labeled. Is there a way to not have the foxtail keep showing up as a incorrect icon? This is only happening on one of my laptops. The one I am on currently features the appropriate Yahoo (purple with "Y") icon.
I think I see what's happening. Are you dragging the left end of the address bar? I dragged the url - the https//yahoo...... Click it once to highlight and then drag it out to your desktop.
