please, i have two related questions: 1. Super often, for so long now on my Mac OS, i have found myself wishing i knew of a way to open &edit a bookmark’s properties (specifically, i like to write/edit in the notes section), straight from the bookmarks scrolldown list by simply right-clicking the bookmark and choosing properties from a context menu. Unfortunately, what happens instead is that the webpage itself opens! (Not only that, but it replaces whatever webpage i already had open, which is in itself an additional bummer.) The only way to do what i want (ie. to open &edit the bookmark’s properties), is to either open the bookmarks side bar, find the bookmark there, and then rt-click it, or— and this works only if it is a recently created bookmark!— go to the bookmarks scrolldown, go to recently bookmarked, then rt-click it.

2. I also wish i knew of a way to open my bookmark’s properties for a webpage i am currently on, simply by either rt-clicking on the webpage and selecting from the context menu, or hitting the bookmark shortcut (command-d) and finding the properties option there (alas, all that actually appears are the name, folder, tags, and remove options for it!), or some other convenient keyboard shortcut.

To summarize my 2 questions: Is there any way to make it so that:

1. i can easily open any bookmark’s properties straight from the bookmarks scrolldown list?

and 2. i can open my bookmark’s properties for a webpage i am currently on, straight from the page itself?

Much appreciated!

I'm not using that extension, so best is to try out yourself to see if it works for you. I use some code in userChrome.css to make more fields visible in this dialog and otherwise use the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

Are you using the list in the Bookmarks Menu or are you using the drop-down list that opens if you click "Show your bookmarks" (button next to the star)? The Bookmarks Menu drop-down list might not work on Mac, but I think that the right-click context menu in "Show your bookmarks" should work on Mac.

You can click the highlight star to edit the current bookmark. If you need to see more fields then try this extension.

hi cor-el, thanks for your reply!

okay, so i gather that i must use the bookmarks sidebar, not the menu scrolldown, to Rt-click for properties.

but about my wish for the awesomely convenient method of editing a bookmark's properties straight from the webpage itself, i did read through the info on the page that your shared link lead to, but could find nothing to indicate that this app would add the "properties" field to the command-d editing menu. Can you point me to an app that most definitely does just that?

thanks!

I think that the command-d editing menu is the same menu that open if you click the highlighted star on the Navigation Toolbar.

Did you look at the "Add Bookmark Here 2" extension I posted above as this can add more fields to this dialog?

yes; however, that ext doesn't include the properties field! I scoured through the entire page, and all its screenshots...

Thanks!

You understand wrong. The extension extends what you see in the Properties dialog. You will still have to click the highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog or open the Properties via the right-click context menu. The details panel at the bottom right in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) always shows all properties if you click the more button.

Wait a minute. Perhaps we are not on the same point here?? I am not seeking a way to extend the properties.

I am seeking a way to even see the properties in the first place, directly from whichever webpage i am currently on.

Does that make more sense?

when i click the highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog, i do not see any "properties", i only see "name", "folder", and "tags".

And when i right-click the page, i do not see Properties, there either.

And no details panel at the bottom right comes up either, from either method.

(hmmm... Are you perhaps telling me that i will suddenly see all these things, if i install the add-on? ... ...In which case, it is not simply "extending" the properties, but allowing you easy access to them in the first place?)

Yes. If you install the extension then you can select what properties you see. That is what I meant with 'extending'.

AND you can see them in the first place when you click the highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog, i think you are saying(?)
