Why hasn't sync downloaded recent settings to new install?

After a recent Windows 7 reinstall I've synced a fresh install of Firefox, but none of my data (bookmarks, log-ins, etc) has been synced. Can anything be done? I guess that i thought this is what sync was about.

Perhaps the ability to log in and view/manually download/verify data would be helpful. Or the ability to confirm the action the user wants: i.e. "I want to download existing sync data" versus "I want this new blank install to wipe all of my existing data"

Sync is intended to synchronize Firefox user data between multiple Firefox installations. It is not intended to serve as a backup medium; as with an OS re-installation. Although some people have been able to pull it off.

Per chance, you didn't have to request a new Password for the Sync service, did you?

Alas, I did reset my password (as I have the memory management capacity of Windows 95)

Sorry, that's why you can get your data to the new Firefox installation. When you request a new Sync account Password the data saved on the Sync server is deleted.
