I am not able to play any video on jw.org pages. No Flash installed, FF on Ubuntu 14.04. I think it is a FF problem because Chrome can play any video without Flash plugin.

Hi jonata, Chrome has a built in player that supports swf files. Firefox uses another built in HTML5 player. However this website specifies what player to use in the embedded pages.

It may require Shockwave to watch. I have also tried it in Shumway the new flash player in Nightly version of Firefox and I filed an error report for some of the movies. I hope this will improve the development of the flash player! :-)

Google Chrome actually comes with its own Flash player implementation that is Pepper based and developed in cooperation with Adobe although GC also supports the NPAPI Flash player used by Firefox (it is disabled; chrome:plugins; about:plugins works as well)

In case you do not have the proper GStreamer support installed you can disable the HTML5 media player by setting the media.gstreamer.enabled pref to false on the about:config page.

Hi rmcguigam

Thanks for your answer. I forgot to mention that I am not really using chrome, but the "open source" version chromium. If I understand well the issue, chromium can not come with adobe flash built in. If this is the case, I am playing in chromium the html5 player of the site.

Thanks for your answer. As I explained later, it was my mistake writing that I was using chrome, in the true I am using chromium. As I understand, chromium can not comes with adobe flash. If this is the case, chromium is using the html5 player of the website.

Go to the site. Let the page load. After it is done, mouse up to the address box and Left Click on the icon. You will see a window telling you about the site. Press the More Information button. Go thru all the menus. Make sure nothing is labeled Blocked.

When you get to the Media tab, go thru everything listed in the top window. If anything is blocked, it will show in a check box just above the bottom window.

Reload the page, or restart Firefox. Go back to that page.

If there is still a problem, Left click the icon again, press More Information. Select the Permissions tab, then set all the video type options to Allow. If the Use Default box on the left is checked, uncheck it.

After you are done, try again.

I did that and no success.

I have compared the HTML loaded in FF and in Chromium and it seems that some script in FF is not loading as should. In Chromium, the website loads the player, with the controls and so. In FF just an empty div.

Thanks for the attention.

Testing here on Mac OS X 10.9.3, FF with flash disabled, and the same issue happens. Safari with flash disabled plays the videos without any problem.

Updated to version 30 and now there is an image of the video and a "play" button in the middle, but when clicked, an error appears: "Error loading media: File could not be played".

Maybe this is related: contrary to previous versions of Firefox, Vimeo videos are playing now.
