Firefox becomes slow after 2-3 mins of browsing. Also using up to 6gb of RAM

This has been going on for a few months now. Web browsing eventually becomes too slow after only a few minutes. Going to task manager and closing and restarting allows quick browsing for another few minutes before grinding to a halt. I also noticed that firefox is always using more than 1gb of RAM and up to 6.5gb of ram. Any ideas, this seems to have been since quantum and is the same across my laptop devices too.

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
