Why do I suddenly need to enter my password to send most emails? I never used to have to do this. Now most times when I try to send a message, the progress box stalls for about a minute, then I get a message asking if I want to enter a password. I do so and it sends.. and I always check the box for password manager to remember the password. Then the same thing happens not long later.

ps - the long wait slows down work to a crawl. Not an acceptable situation!

Tried disabling outgoing mail scanning in your anti virus? It is a frequent cause of communications errors and is scanning for a virus it already says you do not have. Such a waste.

Thanks Matt. Not sure how to do that though.. I have Windows Defender - the software bundled with Windows 10 - but I don't see a lot of options for settings that would disable this scanning. Would it be "Exclusions - processes"?

PS - The problem has evolved slightly - the last message simply timed out. "Connection to outgoing server (SMTP) timed out". Now it's not even asking for a password, and I can't send at all.

PPS - I closed and reopened Thunderbird, and was able to send the message. Obviously not an ideal solution...

Have not found a solution yet, except to click on "Cancel" each time the request to enter my password appears!
