I am having trouble accessing some of my financial institutions where I have accounts. Never used to have this problem, so something in the past few weeks of updates has caused this.

It works fine accessing these accounts in Microsoft Edge, which I don't want to change to.

What do I have to change in Firefox to get back to accessing these accounts? I am running Firefox 65.0.1

Thanks, George

Chosen solution

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console about what content is blocked

What error screenshot are you getting?

Hi, WestEnd

I get no error message at all. Just get the page not moving forward to the account information page. So I enter my log-in information and click to move forward and the page just hangs there, with no URL progress that used to happen in the bottom left of the screen.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Hi, Fred - Thanks for your help here.

Well I deleted cookies and cleared the cache, no change.

I started in Safe Mode and it works fine and gives me access to my bank account. I disabled the hardware acceleration, then closed Firefox.

Went back in, not in safe mode, and I now go past the first screen of entering my userID, but on the password page, the next page, the screen is stuck and does not advance.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again for your help. George

Thanks cor-el.

Went through all your suggestions and when I disabled all the Add-Ons, it worked!

Went back and added each, one at a time, and learned that Privacy Possum caused the problem!

Thank you so much for your help. George
