Some sites take a long time to load

more options

Hello, I have tried running Firefox in safe mode, disabled add-ons, extensions, plug-ins and themes and checked my Avast for any exceptions related to Firefox.

Still, when I try to load some sites (primarily FoxNews and Facebook, but a few others as well) they take very long to load. In the lower left corner, I see several random links flash by, preceded by "Waiting for...", "Reading...", "Transferring from..." and "Performing TLS handshake". Banking and gaming sites do well, but Chrome is faster, though I prefer Firefox for its security, supposed speed and not being part of Google. Those same sites also do not auto-fill when I start to type them in the address bar. I suppose the easy answer is to use Chrome on those troublesome sites, but I was wondering if I'm missing something. I have quite a few log-ins and favorites saved, so I'm hesitant to re-install it or clear history.

Sounds like firefox is corrupted so how did you update or upgrade it?

You might install an ad blocking extension and test again. Sites that contact a lot of ad and tracking servers may load faster after that. Whether it is better or worse to be using an ad blocker is an individual decision. Browsing should be faster overall, but there will be some pages that don't load completely and you have to turn off blocking (use the add-on's toolbar button to make an exception) and reload the page.

This one is well-regarded:
